Warning Light

Hi

I've got a MK4 Golf, and every few months, the Engine Warning light flashes on and off 2/3 times then stops, not to be seen again for a few months. Always does it when the engine is cold and only when I seem to be letting the car roll in gear.

The engine doesn't splutter and there are no knocking noises (apart from the front suspension, ARB bushes/links need replacing!)

Any help would be appreciated.

sorry mate you have not told us what engine?

according to his profile it's a 1.4, I'm guessing 16v

Yeah a 1.4 16v. It's my P&J even though they do stiff me on the insurance just for that little engine!

ETA, it's not done this since I first posted.
