...for the bonnet hinges to crack? I can imagine they take a fair beating, but both of mine are coming away from the bonnet and need to be re-glassed.

One of mine was loose when i bought the car. It had let the bonnet drop and rub against the wing and didn't feel good when lifting the bonnet. I decided a better fix was to bolt a piece of threaded bar to the bonnet using very large washers (as large as would fit in the space available) and two nuts sandwiching the bonnet between them and then bolting to the hinge the same way. Was fiddly to do but its not going anywhere now. Stronger than re glassing them IMO.

Mine went, when you look at how the hinges are made up it's hardly surprising. Get a decent amount of glassfibre in there to bond in the original fittings and it will be rock solid.

my hinges went and the hanging catches at the rear of the bonnet snapped off
used some chemical bonding stuff to repair.
think the hinges broke due to the rose joints seizing

Seems like a common issue then!

Sadly my fibreglassing skills are sadly lacking, so I'd best get it booked in before the bonnet seperates at an inopportune moment!

My securing plate at the back broke off on one side and I made up a new aluminium plate and pop riveted in place
