yep, I personally think he's been one of the best. OK he did my nut in with race after race comments about marbles but JA has been consistently good and easy to listen to.

Seemed ok to me. Infact all the team i didn't mind. The only think that got on my nerves about ITV were the Ad breaks.. They broke up the racing too much.

I thought James Allen did an excellent job of commentary. He keeps the average viewer (ie. me) thoroughly engaged throughout & is pretty knowledgable about F1.

IMO, there is a lot of bandwagon jumping here, as it is seen as "cool" to refer to him as "the cock"

Exactly. He WAS awful at first because he was trying to feign excitement and be like Murray Walker but he was much better in the last couple of years. I'm sure he will get another job in F1.

He actually hardly ever shut up - even today I waiting for him to pause and he never did. If he couldn't find something new to say he repeated what he had said ten minutes earlier.
Someone did a word count on him a few years ago and were surprised to find that he spoke faster than Murray did.

I will not miss him at all.

In case you can't remember he was beyond hopeless when he first came into the job and his only improvements were to:-
- Give Brundle more air-time;
- Stop opening his mouth without thinking. (Which granted is pretty important, but he's still no great commentator...lacks the passion of Walker or the precision and/or emotion of those in other sports)


So I for one am glad to see him go...although judging by today's effort Brundle seems to be catching his lack of focus - 3 fundamental errors in commentary during the race alone!

Steve Ryder and Blundell were awful. But Ryder was the worst. He seemed to just be given a question and stood there nodding his head like some moron and when he had to ad lib he'd just talk about lewis. He was no replacement for Jim Rosenthal; who at least had some enthusiasm for it.

Well said Eric. He really does ruin it for me, the constant wittering drives me mad. I quite often have to turn the sound off when he gets into the loop of saying the same thing over and over again.

It strikes me that it's F1 "lite" to some degree, there is no opportunity to listen to the noise of the cars and to draw your own conclusions because he's shoving his own views down your throat over and over and over again.

I forget what it was yesterday but there was another of those classic moments where JA was taking rubbish, handed back to Martin with an opening for him to comment on what JB had said and Martin completely dropped it and talked about something different!

I won't miss him either.
