Track day noise / insurance

If a a young lad reached a certain age when he though he should re-gain his youth and "track-day" out of the mid-life crisis, would his car meet the noise limit if the track stated 105 dB(A) for an engine at 3/4 revs, and if this car was a S3C (with cats removed, but otherwise standrad exhaust? Also, where could he check this?

Secondly, for a bit of insuance, are there people who rate S-cars as a low risk (with low premium) for the track day only, or will it generally be best to get the regular insurer to take some of my money first?

Can't help on the insurance front - only ever used the Westfield on airfields and haven't got the S on a trackday yet.

I own the blue S1 and live locally to you....

I do not have cats in my car, and have never had any issues with trackday noise. I`d be amazed if you have a problem, the cars often sound louder inside than out. Jed might have the solution to check.

As for insurance, it`s a nightmare, and you have to read the small print, after which you`ll determine whether or not it`s of any value.

I am insured through Classic Line, and they used to be very reasonable, but I do not think they offer this any more. Adrain Flux might be worth a try, or sometimes the organisers do schemes. Try Motorsportvision for links.

I was going to do Snetterton this weekend, but they`re really strict on "novices", which is understandable. Javelin are doing a meet at Woodbridge the following weekend, which I am pretty sure I will do. Are you up for it?

Haven't checked it admittedly, but I'd be very surprised if an S with a halfway normal exhaust proved to be a problem. They're not that loud compared with bike engines and some of the V8s.

Insurance-wise, Hagerty will cover you for 10% of the policy cost per track day (about £20 for a young'un) which sounds pretty good.

I know all cars are different but my decatted C with sports exhaust is a smidge under 100db so I reckon you'll be fine on that front.

Mine has an ACT sports exhaust and has always been fine on track days. I know of a S with standard exhaust that has been black flagged at a certain continental track day due to noise...

Mark - Woodbridge is poss, but I am thinking of Snetterton the same day (15th) as it is a Novice-only day and only £99....what do you think? - we could use each others cars for spares when the bits fall off.

Andy, I wanted to do this event, but unfortunatley as far as trackdays are concerned, I am not really a novice, and they are quite stringent about this (I asked the questions). You will be fine, but the £99-00 is not all it seems, because the track time is limited to 20 mins every hour, or at least it was when they ran a similar event two weeks ago. There were two sessions of bikes, and one of cars per hour. In truth as you say, over the coarse of the day, its long enough to knacker your car if you feel so inclined? I would love to come an support, but as you say Woodbridge is the same day.....but you could bear it in mind, its an open pit lane format (£129-00), which means as much track time as you like subject to a maximum number of cars on the track at any one time, and there is plenty of run off if you get it wrong, which is not the case at most tracks. I did the RAF Marham event a few weeks back, and it was brilliant, although the weather helped enourmously. The next one is in April....and I will remind you nearer the time if you are interested.
