Smoke...:-( 5.7v8

Started up the Spyder today for the first time in about 4 weeks and noticed that it smoked on idle, also smelt slightly of burning oil.

Checked the exhausts and when placing my hand on them my hand was covered in what can only be described as black water (I'm guessing this could just be condensation coming out?)

Let the car idle for a while and all seemed ok.. took it for a spin and was ok, until hard acceleration and noticed i left a smoke trail behind me, had the crash lid on, but looked like white/blue smoke - not black from overfuelling.. Checked the oil/water levels and all seem fine although the oil level was slightly over the max line (4mm ish)? - just wondering what it could be that's causing it, and can i fix it :-)

Car's done about 4,500 miles. it's a small block chevy v8 with 4 port holley carbs. I don't know of any chevy engine specialists in Essex

Before I started to get concerned I'd want to put a few miles in to get it well up to temperature, something like an hour or so then see what you have.

you havent overfilled it with oil before you put it away???what i mean is ran it it up then checked dipstick before allowing oil to settle???

Also in this weather there is a lot of condensation and with the richness of a carb v8 and soot in the exhaust, it may well be just condensation and soot....

give it a good run after warming up the engine and then check again...

You need to recall what happened on the drive before you spotted the smoke, were you caning it or driving normally? Things don't just change overnight without an incident beforehand. If the drive was uneventful then as somebody else suggested, have you filled up with more oil, have you tinkered with any pipes or hoses. Is the drysump/catchtank ok?.

If the fault doesn't go away then I'd suspect a blocked breather/pcv circuit (doubt you've got that) or pressure in the crankcase when the rings get loaded up. It shouldn't be rings with the low mileage that you've done but a compression test would confirm that later on. Are your plugs all the same colour?

Thanks Guys, the car's been sitting for about 3 weeks in the garage. I checked all the oils and water before hand (I'm used to doing this after owning a tvr!) and the oil was only slightly over, and everything else seems ok.

Haven't tinkered with it since it's been in the garage. As you said, i'll get some miles on the car when the weather's a little dryier! I'll check the spark plugs this weekend and see what they look like.
