I bought one of these from ebuyer in May/June. After a month or two it intermittently gave notices to "turn camera off then on again" because it would be unable to focus at all. This occurred a bit but then one day became a permanent feature. It's broken and never gives any other message.

I assumed "Oh know I'll have to send it back for warranty repair" yet amazingly can't find any warranty documents in the box it came in. I looked on panasonic's website who seem uninterested in giving warranty information unlike Microsoft who did a wonderfully smooth & swift pick up and repair via their online service of my 2.5 year old XBox.

I registered the camera on the panasonic website and all I see (after going past all the questions about when is your house insurance due for renewal and what newspapers do you read) is the ability to "purchase a warranty for this item" next to my TZ5.

What gives? Is there even a warranty? Is 6 months not an acceptable time to hope a new piece of equipment works ok? It's not been dropped or mistreated, and I'm particularly careful with things.

Thanks
Russell

go to http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/219854/index...

click on service centre locator that should point you in the right direction as to where to take your camera

Since it's less than a year old I don't see any issue with returning it to ebuyer to sort out, log into your account and you can arrange everything online, I have used ebuyer returns twice now, and they have been quick and efficient.

Yes, it's an issue between you and eBuyer as that's where the contract lies. All goods have a 12 month warranty unless stated otherwise (eg refurbished items). The Panasonic option to purchase probably refers to extending this period.

Indeed.

Who'd've though you could get a shot like this from a compact - in unedited original form here. This was the last photograph it took before it broke for good.

and I'm not even a geeky photographer, was just point and shooting mine & a friend's cars and rested it on the kerb for this shot. Fairly pleased.

It's gone back to ebuyer who collected for free which is good service. May get a new replacement which will be nice-ish except I'll lose the scratch protecting screen cover I had on there.

Good choice going for the E30. Those Mercs are crap.

+1. Bought mine a couple of months ago to save lugging the Nikons around. Tried a G9 that was great, but too bulky, and found the TZ5 absolutely spot on. Not for any action stuff, too much shutter lag, but most excellent quality snaps:
