ok so my mum is having a family get together for Guy Faulk's night and is annoyed that my part of the family will not be there and has tried al types of persuasion as she will be embarriced that i am not there!

the thing is i am livid at the whole situation and here are my main grievences;

1) she has asked my sister in law if it is ok if i go and she said it is ok. First i am your son she is just some jailbird that can suck start a harley and therefore my brother married her at 18, i should be the one you ask first if it is ok if she goes. get your priorities straight! she has totaled the windows on my car and they owe me 3 grand for the last 5 years so why exactly do you have to ask if it is ok if i come.

2) One other brother dosn't want to go incase i am there. well lets see he stole the battery off my car and then denied it and when i went round to retreive it threatened me and squared up to me. after receiving a slap he suddenly found said battery and proceeded to call the police. sorry but again i am at a loss to explain where my actions were wrong for two reasons. first this is the second time he has done this as i found a small add for my car parts in the paper with his phone number. second he has history of rabbit punching me and then legging it and not having a stand up fight.

3) her other half, ok so i was round there quite oftern but i was helping on projects trying to make them some money trying to help my mum and him by welding cars working on the house and other little things. now who my mum chooses is non of my concern i don't interfere in her love life and she has no say in mine! But when the moron called me a st stirrer because i was pissed that my trailer was wrecked and the whole family conspired to keep it from me, all i did was go calmy round and try to discuss it with the person responsible, i am meet at the door by the jailbird who i asked to get my brother to call me. I then go for a beer round my mates and by the time i get home all hell has broken loose and i am apparently the cause of it all. First if i have a problem with someone i tell them straight what the problem is i am not subtle. Second if i am a st stirrer say it to my face, oh the irony is lost on them. So a clear decision was made six months ago to stay away and let all hell break loose without me getting any blame, and i beleive it has worked well however i now have a mother trying emotional blackmail to try to get me there.

She has tried inviting my friends to get me to come and entice me there, she has tried emotional blackmail, she has tried persuading my wife, she has even tried to persuade my daughter to go without us, she has said that she will not get to see her grandaughter this xmas. Well it hasn't bothered you all year!

so how do i handle this problem stick to my guns and have an easy life or go and grin through gritted teeth?

Simple. If you don't want to go, don't go.

I make that a rule in life.

I am getting grief for not going to the office Xmas party. I don't want to go, so I am not going. End of story.

I'd stick to your guns.

Why go when you won't have a good time?

You have cut off contact for the last 6 months.

It is your choice if you go or not.

Given what you have posted I wouldn't as it seems to me that this is the pivotal point on you being able to walk away from, what it appears you consider to be, a very poor family life.

It's your call.

Agreed.

I think you should go.

-And get someone to film it. -An enormous family bundle with sparklers. Could be a youtube legend.

So you are being asked to go to a party where there will be alcohol and you are perceived as the central point of issue with most of the rest of your extended family !!!!! If you feel the need to fight with one or more of them and am confident you can put them down swiftly then attend.

Fireworks night could hardly be a more adequate description for this little get together if you do go biggrin

Do you really need to ask? It's an optional invitation.
