a long shot on this one, but i am after a recipe for teh tarik as google is not being much help.

went for a fantastic value malaysian meal on saturday night at a little place halfway up edgeware rd. the OH commented that it looked like slop but tasted like heaven smile

we had a set meal and with the dessert [some coconut soup thing] we were brought a large glass of teh tarik.

it didn't taste much like tea, more like a malt drink or hot chocolate. the waitress tried to explain what is was but i've since found out that its made from black tea and condensed milk with sugar and the option of cinammon. 'teh tarik' translates to 'pulled tea' as it is poured/pulled between jugs to mix it and create froth. wasn't the best of things to finish a meal with but would be ideal for winter.

so, anyone any better with google than i am? the only recipe i found called for 3 tsp of condensed milk and 4 [!!!] tsp of sugar. no thanks!

I will ask the F-In-L as he remembers it well from when he grew up in SIngapore.

He always says that it takes a long time to practicing not spilling it when it is "pulled" from one container to another.

I might be seeing him tonight so will try and remember to ask.

You tube seems to throw up a few hits. From what I can see there is no hard and fast recipe

Measure Ingredient
1 quart Boiling water
3 teaspoons Tea powder (usually teh tarik is made from the a special blend of tea from Cameron Highlands..not green tea)
3 teaspoons Condensed milk
4 teaspoons Sugar

To make a tarik drink, you need two steel mugs Pour the boiling water into large cup with tea powder. Stir well. Add in milk and sugar. Stir well. Pour the tea into a big cup by pulling one to another cup. Do the same method until the tea looks foamy and creamy.

Other varients are here : http://drnaz.wordpress.com/2007/07/28/teh-tarik-an... (like coffee or hot choc)
