I heard this yesterday and, for no real reason, just felt like sharing it:

"A country strong enough to give you everything you want is strong enough to take away everything you have" - Thomas Jefferson

Amazing how the founding fathers' wisdom is still applicable today.

Oh, now there are some sour grapes! hehe However, to be technical, Jefferson was born in Shadwell Virginia, not the UK.

No sour grapes, just in England we learn history and in the US you learn glory-laden, sentimental, mythological propaganda about the US designed to unite your disparate population under one flag, irrespective of the truth!

To paraphrase Arthur Wellesley, just because a dog is born in a stable, it doesn't make it a horse. Jefferson was born an Englishman and considered himself thus right up until he and his cohorts decided turning traitor on their own people was a fair price to pay for power. smile

I am afraid you are correct. Hopefully, it will be something we can cure in four years.

On the bright side though, electing McCain might have been better for the US, but I think an Obama victory will be better for the UK as it will make the US less competitive just as we replace our lame-duck pseudo-socialists. Always a silver lining! wink

Umm, no. Four years is the length of a Presidential term.

Probably spot on. As PH logic goes, you will elect what you don't want us to have and we will elect what you all are going to toss out. smile

'The Labour Government committed themselves to increased expenditure and the unemployment figures rose alarmingly. A loss of confidence in sterling caused a summer crisis...'

The Conservatives get back in with 521 seats. Labour get 52.

Unfortunately that was 1931...
