if you are a chef and don't want to handle a particular meat, run your own restaurant, don't expect to join a large organisation and tell them how they should be run.

i am holding my head in my hands.

I used to know a chef who was vegan but she still cooked everything, you make your choices. Their HR dept should never have made promises about what he would be cooking as it is out of their remit TBH. I still think it is stupid though.

What a terwattttt...

I'm only going to employ white blokes over 40 who smoke if I ever expand the business. It's far too risky employing these darkies yes

.

I'm so fking sick of religious bks its un fking true.

Look, its quite simple, you're employed to cook breakfasts. Cook breakfasts or fk off.

Its not racism, its a simple choice, a choice which even someone as lazy as you can make you utter fking .

How the fk is that racism? It's religion, which has nothing whatsoever to do with race and deserves no protection whatsoever. If you can't do the job as required then fk off and find another one.

Would you?

Would you really have gone for a job in a canteen style environment where the main meal served is breakfast, and that breakfast is a traditional UK fry up many times?

Or would you have thought - 'Perhaps this isn't for me?'

Smacks to me of unfit for purpose and should never have been taken on in the first place.

FFS, what was the interview for the post like?

Obviously not fit for the job, he could find a nice job elsewhere, obviously cooking shouldn't be his profession!

I read a great quote, on the war photo thread, apparently from the captain of HMS Conqueror on returning to port having sunk the General Belgrano in the Falklands War....

Conqueror was flying the Jolly Roger and a reporter asked the captain if flying it was a good idea given it might offend people....

The captains response, which i think should be the new mantra of 21st century UK was "People shouldnt be so easily offended"

so so true !!

How come every time I'm in London I see loads of restaurants that don't serve Pork and seem to cater to the Muslim trade... why the fk couldn't he find a job with one of those?

My cousin keeps Kosher, I eat Bacon as fast as I can, he isn't comfortable eating in my house and I can respect that, he also respects that I don't keep anything remotely close to Kosher.

So when we go out to eat we GO TO A GODDAMNED KOSHER RESTAURANT! He accepts the fact that his dietary considerations marginalize him, and that is his choice and one that he has conciously made but at least he has the courtesy to not push his way of thinking on the rest of the fking world.

On reflection, now the steam has stopped coming out of my ears.

I bet he isn't even 'employed' by the Met.

All catering is outsourced now. How the fk the Met have been dragged into his employer moving him to a different location beggars belief.

Oh and yes Mmmmmmmmmmm 999! With tea.

So many piss boilers in this article:

Torygraph said:
Mr Khoja is being supported by the National Black Police Association, which has urged potential recruits not to join the Met, because of "racism" within the force.
But he isn't black...?

Torygraph said:
"I never enrolled to cook pork. I had a letter from the human resources department saying that I would not be required to cook any pork. But this was not exactly what I wanted as a guarantee."
Tough st

Torygraph said:
His solicitor Khalid Sofi said: "We are confident that we have a very good claim. Religious discrimination law obliges employers if possible to accommodate genuine religious needs. The Met is a very large organisation and should have the flexibility to accommodate people in this way. But [/b]they were not able to guarantee[/b] that he would not have to handle pork products."
Because if they had guarenteed it, he'd have no doubt found a reason to touch bacon and then sue them for breaking that guarentee. I would imagine that a kitchen would have a lot of pork products in it FFS

Torygraph said:
The lawyer added: "This case goes in to wider issues of diversity, and I think it raises significant issues in the current climate. This is a claim based purely on religious discrimination rather than some of the other claims currently faced by the Metropolitan Police which use race discrimination law."
No, it's a case of a chancer taking the piss using legislation that was aimed as serious discrimination, not the cooking of a bacon sarnie

Torygraph said:
Mr Khoja, who previously spent four years as a catering manager at the Royal College of Defence Studies, also sits on a Food Standards Agency advisory committee on Muslim issues.
Dear god rolleyes

Torygraph said:
Eating and handling pork products is prohibited by Islamic dietary laws, which consider the pig an unclean animal.
If it's that offensive to him, perhaps being a chef in the UK is not a suitable profession for him?

Torygraph said:
After refusing to work without a guarantee that he would not have to handle pork Mr Khoja, 60, from Edgware, north London, said he was placed on unpaid special leave for a year.
Aaaarghh!!

Torygraph said:
He is now back at work at another Met building in Earl's Court, west London, where he does not have to handle foods which contravene his faith, but has been downgraded from senior catering manager to higher catering manager.
So they have found him a suitable job and the tt still sues them!!

ps, have one of these on me:

what he said, though with a slight hehe at the use of the phrase "y bks".

Why on earth anyone would think they can go into general catering but be excused from touching pork is beyond me. Seek employment in a restaurant aimed purely at your religion, start your own business or fk off into another occupation. Your choice.

I think he should be compensated.

By way of an all expenses paid, one-way trip to a country more in-keeping with his religious beliefs.
