I've told the Mrs I'd arrange a week away in France for a camping trip in the summer, but I haven't really been camping for more than 1 night so wasn't sure what to look out for. Could anyone suggest some nice spots?

Our criteria: 4 adults, 1 week, South of France (Nice or surrounding area), in July / August ish, near a beach, a pool would be nice too - around £200ish each.

Has anyone been to any good sites in the past that they can recommend?
Personally i'd be happy with a chalet on a campsite, but it must be £200 ish per week, per person.

Thanks,

Mark

Cap D'Agde is an impressive camp site smile

On a more serious note, there used to be a EuroCamp near La Rochelle with an Aqua Park etc in it which was good. Its also quicker to drive to and cheaper, plus the sea has waves, so you can surf.

Cassis, most picturesque small town on the southern french coast, just along from Marseille place is full of nice restaurants, everything you'd want for a relaxing break. Campsite is only 15 minute walk up the hill out of town and is also very good as campsites go. The clanques are great to go walking and exploring around.

I stayed here once and it was great, just a short ferry ride to St Tropez.

Port Grimaud is very nice too. Too be honest most places other than Marseille are nice along that coast. I think I have been there 15 times on holiday.

Emplacements with own bathroom! What a brilliant idea.

Many thanks for that link

Another one for Port Grimaud.

We also stayed inland up in a campsite terraced into the hills above Cannes and Nice - http://www.lespinedes.com/gb4.html good pool & facilities and peaceful.

I woudl imagine these are very busy in August, but June & early July would be great.

If you really enjoy the heat, then camping in the South of France is great.

I did it a couple of times when I was a teenager and the heat wasn't an issue then, but I went back this August (now a teenager x 2 plus a bit!!) and stayed at Les Tournels near St Trop, and whilst the site was great and I'd fully recommend it, I found trying to sleep in a tent when it is still 28+ deg C at 1am to be hard work!

We then moved along the coast and stayed here - a converted farmhouse in the hills above Menton and it was simply fantastic. 10 mins from Menton centre and the beaches, but thick stone walls and cooling breezes up the valley made sleeping a pleasure. Hardly expensive either at £25 per person per night b&b - I'd go back in a heartbeat...

I camped in Agay many years ago and loved it.

5 mins from beach, some great little bars etc..

Can't remember which campsite it was but one of these in the link

http://www.agay.fr/francais/Campings-agay-saint-ra...

It had a pool, cafe and shop which sold fresh pastries and bread every morning.

This one is right on the beach

We visited Monaco by train and drove into the hills a few times which are spectacular.

How are you planning to get down there?

Long way to drive for a week and you will be pushing it to do the whole thing for £200 each.

Agreed, we've been there 3 times now and it's great, especially the private bathroom which also gives you somewhere safe to lock your valuables up when you're at the beach or pool smile

Isn't Menton in Monaco rather than France?
