Fancy doing something a bit different for bringing in the New Year. Thought about the Edinburgh street party but will see. Anybody done anything different/brilliant before? Other than stay at home e.t.c

I'm going to be putting on a party - marquee, food, drink, music; the works. Plus, I'm going to charge people to come.

I dont intend to be in the country. Little cottage log fire somewhere nice and remote with my other half will do me just fine.

I'm off to Munich for a couple of nights with some Mates for new year - leaving early on New Year's Eve and getting the last flight back on the 2nd. Should be a cracking trip, plus it'll be something different to see New Year in in a different country!

I really dont think you can beat a ski resort for New Year!
Every one of my memorable ones (except Y2K) have been whilst skiing; awesome and incredible party atmosphere as long as you avoid the Euro nutters with fire works/crackers.

Not sure what we are doing this year, doubt if there will be many friends about for a piss up at the local frown
Everyone else we know is already busy (or telling us that)

I'll be letting off fireworks in the posh part of Helensburgh.....whilst slightly tipsy on the local war juice biggrin

I will also mostly be drunk there the day before and the day after... which is nice hehe

Don't want to piss on your parade, but...well...it's not all that good. In fact, it's crap. Akin to Trafalgar Square but with more frustration. No easily accesible drink (you have to queue for days), crowds pushing you all over the shop, and generally miserable weather (fking freezing if it's not raining).

I would not come to Edinburgh purely for the centre's Hogmanay celebrations.

However, I *would* recommend coming here for a few days and finding another Hogmanay venue outwith the street party.

Does that make sense?

Come for a break, but don't bother with the official party ste, basically biggrin

Might try and work it in some form as there is money to be made.

Agreed!

As said Edinburgh is good to visit around that time but I'd rather be in a cosy pub (away from Princes St) than be surrounded by packed crowds, most of whom aren't even Scottish or from Edinburgh.

Agree about Edinburgh - it used to be great years ago when everybody went to the Tron but when they made it all official in Princes Street it ruined the atmosphere.

Far better to head to the Highlands - esp Skye!

House-parties are my favourite for New Year although spending it on a mountain top with a pretty girl, champagne and a clear sky was pretty good too.

I wouldn't waste your time or money going to Edinburgh. Everyone herded into Princes Street like cattle, having to deal with the Chavs. Not fun at all. One of my best New Years was at a house party, drunk as a skunt trying to make cheese and onion toasties. Missed the bells but what the heck!
