Radio 1 and the commercial pop stations have a common theme whereby a small group of people natter and moan constantly about stuff. Radio 3 and Classic FM do their equivalent by playing rousing music with horns and percussion on full blaze.

Do people find that this wakes them up and they like it? Or would you rather be soothed into the day with something more relaxing?

yes Pretty much the only station that doesn't offer "option 1" in the above!! Quiet, intelligent voices speaking at me when I'm driving, not argumentative groups of people (R1/Commercial) or crashing symbals and loud horns (Classic/R3).

My ipod on shuffle is what I wake up to in the mornings, can't stand all the chatter and crap on Radio 1.

I'd put it in the "more soothing" category. Radio 4 news presenters have deliberately quiet and calm voices.

It always puzzles me when I get in the car every morning that wherever I tune the radio I get loud brash music or groups of people arguing. CDs or Radio 4 seem to be the only respite!

Has to be Radio 2 for Wogan.

However, beware attempting to drive when it's time for Janet & John, it may lead to an increase in Road Traffic Incidents.

Fancy taking Miss Frontage up the OxO Tower!!

I enjoy Chris Moyles in the morning, but I find myself more and more turning over to Radio 4 for the discussions going on - certainly more interesting, but sometimes I listen to Chris Moyles if I want to smile - Radio 4 can be a bit depressing at times!
