Received a bill yesterday for a property i lived in just under 7 years ago.
Allegedly it is for 'E.on'.
I have always payed by direct debit and called in last bill readings.
I'm 99% sure i have never even used 'E.on'.
Googling 'LCS Civil Enforcement' shows large numbers of people being sent bills for suppliers they haven't used.

Sounds remarkably like a scam, the dates in the letter are close to when i was in the property and my current address is correct.

Is this company real, as in the sense legitimate. Why would it take near 7 years to find me? I've always been on the electoral role and been employed. I have bank accounts, credit cards, mortgage etc. Surely it would take about 5 minutes to find me?

Is it down to me to prove the bill isn't mine assuming it is legit?
What do i legally have to do?

Thanks.

I would say ignore it, if they come back to you again, then just tell them to prove that you owe the money.

If it's from 7 years ago, then there isnt anything they can do anyway.

Don't phone them, do not acknowledge anything, just wait to see if they get back to you.

I think this crowd have contacted me twice since I moved in to my flat about the previous owners debts.

I just ignored their letters.

Already called them, sent a letter requesting full details too.

Stupidly didn't google them first, half expected a Nigerian should have answered and requested payment by Western Union!

They are the debt collection agency Eon use. Eon took over some energy companies some time ago, I forget which ones, maybe Norweb? I suffered from the same confusion when I moved house, never having heard of them.

In my experience, contact the energy company concerned. Talking to LCS is a complete waste of time and will only raise your blood pressure. They can tell you nothing, they only "know" that you owe some money, but not why. I spoke to the company and got everything sorted out the same day.
