Just thought I'd post up some pictures of my new purchase; a 1983 635csi manual. She's really clean, with no rust to be seen. Pretty brisk too, for an old thing. The electrics seem a bit TVR, but it's such a good looking car, I can forgive her. Engine seems a bit more 'tappety' than what I'm used to, though; any ideas?

I'm actually pretty surprised by it's pace; it's a lovely, torquey engine and I think having the manual gearbox makes the most of it.
The wheels are pretty big and pimp-tastic, but I think they suit the car, and are much better than the originals with those funny tyres.
Will definitely get her waxoiled as I plan to use her everyday.

I found that mine got better the more I used it - they don't like being left standing for long periods. Using it everyday will do it good (rust aside).
And I agree that the metric TRX tyres are a bit of a nightmare, in terms of grip, price and availability.
I took a couple of long trips in mine - once to Le Mans and once to the South of France - and it really is a brilliant cruiser.
Do be prepared, though, for maintenance costs. They're a complicated beast for their time and (as I found out) there's no shortage of things to go wrong. Have you found a good specialist?

Nice - they look better in the darker colours.
My 635 is now tucked up and off the road for the winter and I'm already missing it! There are pictures of mine here and on bigcoupe.com. Now got a set of colour coded E39 BBS wheels, type 32 I think, which replaced the original TRX wheels. The tyres for the TRX rims are frightening expensive.

Not looked for a specialist yet. Does anyone have recommendations around the SE London/Kent area? I was kind of hoping to do the basic servicing myself, if that's a viable option?
I do plan on using the old girl a fair bit; hoping to drive over to the F1 Hungarian Grand Prix next year, which should give me a good opportunity to stretch it's legs....
Now just have to find an S38 engine for sale.......
