Saw an X6 on the road today - the first I've seen. I just wondered how long they've been available for, and whether the one I saw is "the first out of the factory" or whether they've been available for a while and no-one is buying them.

Anyone got an opinion?

They've been out a while. BMW are quoted as having said that they first 18 months supply is sold out, but its certainly not in the UK (unless their allocation was five of them!)

I saw one yesterday out on the road for the first. Ungodly things created by a cynical marketing department

Assumed it would take off in a similar light to the RR Sport did.

The RR Sport is a 5 seater with a proper bootspace. Besides, BMW have a RR Sport rival - the x5.

biggrin Got one sitting on my drive right now. Had it for two months and loving it biggrin

If you read the many other threads, as well as stupid, I am apparently shallow, arrogant, chav-like, aspiring to be something and lack taste.

Still could be worse............

(In reality the few people who have made any comment directly to me have been complimentary)

Dont see why so many people feel they need to make a point of not liking the X6. Its not the prettiest car in the world but much nicer than a Cayenne which people dont seem to have an issue with these days.

I've seen just the one. Very, very odd looking thing. Just doesn't work in my eyes, but each to their own

I'm not making a point by not liking it. I just dont like it. I has an e70 x5, and now have a 535d. My wife has a z4 Coupe, so we'd be right up there in terms of potential victims, sorry customers, for a new model. I just think they missed a trick entirely with it. So maybe its disappointment moreso than dislike with me.

Besides, this is pistonheads, where everybody and their dog expresses an opinion about everything.

As my wife says, she buys what she wants and what she likes, not what other people might like. If it happens to piss people off, then thats merely an added benefit, so the name calling wouldnt bother me (as im sure it doesnt you)

There are a couple floating around near me, one owner is the sort of bloke who changes his car every six months and has to have the latest thing. Genuinely can't see the point of one really, like an ugly X5 with a price premium and less space, not that my opinion should matter a jot to any owners, potential or otherwise. Would be really interested if someone could point out to me what the benefits of an X6 are, or anything they excel at. A reason to buy one if you will, because I can't for the life of me think of a single redeeming feature.

- Dubious look = check

- Huge depreciation = check

- Questionable off road ability = check (I'm sure it is highly unlikely anyone would venture off road in one I'll admit.)

- Compromised on road ability = check (By its very nature any 4x4 is going to be beaten on-road by something more focused on the task)

-Less space than X5/Other competition = check

-High running costs = check

I'm not having a go, just wonder what spurred those who have one to choose it over anything else.

Our MD just took delivery of his derv one, specced up to 60k. Why did he get it? because he can, and it suits his requirements.

Came back covered in mud this week, looks like he had a better weekend than me.

I've seen two. One in Surrey, and one off New Bond Steet in a car park, that looks like that is the only drive it has done since leaving the dealer.

No my cup of tea, but neither is a X5 (which at least doesn't look so silly)

Assume this is a joke! People spit at Cayennes, which are now virtually unsaleable! A V8S is your for £12k!
