Had a small incident with a road side rock last week and now looking at top and bottom wishbone replacement. Been through the "Bible" and can find nothing on replacing them. Just wondering if anyone has any tips/experiences they would like to share before i just start undoing bolts.

Thanks in advance

Undo bolts, replace. It really is as simple as it looks once you've got her jacked up. You don't even need to split the balljoints as they unbolt.

Is a simple job. But you will need a full geometry setup afterwards. Get this done by someone whom really knows what they are doing. Will transform the car. Recommend Topscats near Aylsbury.

Thought i would just mention having completed this work that it is a really good idea to get the bushes fitted to the new wishbones by a professional prior to starting the work. managed to bend several vices, damage a fly press and unsuccessfully try a hydraulic press before giving up. Took the wishbones to the local garage and had the bushes fitted in 10 mins for the trouble of £5.

Based on the 3 hours of struggle and bruised palms a veritable bargain in my opinion.

Otherwise, as described, unbolt and replace. Easy as that

Only bit that's maybe not obvious if using the original type metallastic bushes is that the mounting bolts should be torqued up with the car weighted (ie not jacked). As theres insufficient room to get in with the road wheels on, allow for a bit of messing about with blocks and axle stands etc to achieve this (far easier at the back)

Are you implying that it is not a required with poly bushes?

Also currently rebushing the front suspension and replacing all ball joints etc......,

Can anyone please recommend a decent set of spring compressors that dont atttempt to fly off the spring at the least provacation. I have two sets but neither have jaws thin enough to hold the front springs effectively.

Thanks!

Shouldn't need them unless you're dismantling the units, the collars retain them in place when you remove them from the car.

If so then it won't matter what position the wishbone is when the bolt is tightened
Except the bush material is not solid and neither are the holes in the chassis a perfect fit. I will continue torquing them under load I think, just can't see a good reason not to wink

Thanks for the update and the tip jjabennett. The local garages are often surprisingly accommodating when it comes to these jobs which with the right kit take no time and a few £'s but which take can us ages.

Thanks,

I should have added that the springs need removing for a bit of a clean up and paint.

yes I often get stuff pressed out at my local 'dirty' garage, very handy for stuff like wheel bearings etc.
