2009 F1 Calender - no finale in Brazil

The revised calendar for 2009 has been released, the last race will be in Abu Dhabi so that gets rid of LH's bugbear race in Brazil. One thought, Abu Dhabi sponsor Ferrari and there will be a Ferrari museum at the circuit, would this mean Ferrari may have had input in the circuit design and therefore better suited to their cars?

I would think that the fact that the Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund, Mubadala, own 5% of Ferrari SpA might be an even greater incentive.
It's possible that Ferrari had some input into the circuit design, and perhaps their success in recent years on a certain type of circuit would have influenced Abu Dhabi. Regardless of that, it's the responsibility of each entrant to produce a car that will work best over the course of a season. I doubt that there is any advantage intrinsic to Ferrari wrt a particular style of circuit.

What stands out from next year's schedule is the loss of Canada and France, juxtaposed against the complete waste of space in Valencia and the addition of another featureless, provenance-free test track in the Middle East.

The Abu Dhabi track certainly looks spectacular - but will it deliver the goods or be another Valencia?

Thats not going to work at all, when the championship goes down to the last race there won't be anyone there to celebrate the winner. These middle-eastern tracks are always deserted...

My initial thought was disappointment that the finale is now at a bland, sterile track.

But then I thought, does the finale deserve to be at a track where the crowd boo and jeer and abuse the new World Champion as he gets out of his car?

If Massa had snatched it at a Silverstone final I dont think it would have been any different!

Good to see the FIA have made good on their pledge to tackle rascist abuse from supporters in Spain by rewarding them with two races in the F1 calendar. Really sends the message that they are serious!
Please can someone explain to me if there are any other reasons other than hard cash why we have to watch F1 cars circulate around non-descript city areas in Valencia and Singapore! The only street circuit that works is Monaco because of the history behind it and the fact that you can actually see the city surrounding the track. At both Valencia and Singapore all you could see were the catch fences and nothing else.
I also have to agree with the comment a few have made about the fact that there is never seems to be anyone there at these desert races.
I know it is a World championship, but with Bahrain & Abu Dhabi online and Dubai coming next year(?), that is three races within a couple of hundred miles of each other! F1 needs to be in North America and ideally Canada and USA.
Sorry, this has descended into a general rant about the state of F1! I'll stop now.

So we had 2 german races when Schuey was recently champion. 2 Spanish races with Alonso recently champion. Does this mean that there will be 2 british races now that Lewis is champ.

There is historical precedent in 1993, after Mansell was champ so it could happen?

+1 with the streets circuits, Valencia and Singapore were crap imo!

As for the racist stuff in Spain, we went to the Spanish GP this year and we didn't see anything like that at all, and we were walking round in McLaren tops etc. Also we were in a grand stand (just before the pit entrance), what a truly fantastic day that was. The spanish there were passing wine, beer, sandwiches & whiskey and cokes round like there was no tomorrow, really was a great party atomsphere. So I think the incident with the guys and the blacked faces was just a one off and doesnt represent the whole Spanish crowd, as for Brazil, well that shows you just how bad some fans can be.

It could still be the deciding race though. We could easily have a repeat of the booing next year. If we do it will be interesting to see what Bernie does as he didn't seem very pleased about it this year.
