Numpty egear question
Discussion
If you switch off and pull the key out in "N" the car emits a beep, but not if you leave it in gear (1st or 2nd). As far as I can see, the manual doesn't explain why. Is this just to warn you that you're relying on the handbrake only, or is there a mechanically sympathetic reason why you should leave it in gear?
On the topic of numpty E-gear questions...
What happens if you are driving at 60 odd MPH and happen to accidentally put it into 'N' (I presume by pulling both paddles) and you find yourself in 'N' at 60?
Do you just 'shift up' and it finds the correct gear? Or do you suddenly blow the engine up by putting it into first?
I assume the first, but just wanted to clarify. It's been bugging me

Is it to remind you that you've actually got two legs to walk on when you get out of the car?
Jeremy, I'm surprised at you, this is the second serious question I have asked on here and you're there ready with your mocking tone
No idea why it doesn't warn you when in gear though

Pretty sure its a safety mechanism to stop rolling if handbrake fails - sure I read it in the manual somewhere. You can hit neutral at any speed (anmd blip her) and re-engage - it selects the appropriate gear. Fun.
Want to say - the sound this car makes when you floor it in third at very low revs is worth every penny...

Yep, its to tell you to leave it in gear, and for a good reason!
I left my car in N with the handbrake on, on a slight hill after a good thrashing. Needless to say the heat in the disks causes them to contract when cooling down, thus meaning the handbrake looses grip on the disk.
Result was my car rolling down the hill hitting a parked M3 CSL.
