I messed around pushing the HDR thing right out there last night (after the pub!). The results are quite interesting in a Harry Potter on drugs kind of way.

More art, software and processing than photgraphy but hey, that's what single malt does to your brain.

In my limited experience I've seen two ways HDR is used. First is to rescue what is otherwise a shot to nothing, something that should have been binned but has been played around with to make more appealing. I've done that with some, taken the focus away from what in any normal situation would be a snap with nothing really grabbing the eye

The second starts with a great shot and does something different to it. Which is what I think you've done.

YUP....

ER....

"interesting"

What did you use, btw, Photoshop, Photomatix or what?

(I can't really get to grips with Photoshop CS3's "merge to HDR", Photomatix seems "easy" but I am not sure I'd get enough use to warrant coughing up money for it.)

Tee hee. Andy - Told you I was drunk

N10K - As mentioned above HDR software like Photomatix (free trial if you google) will let you merge files and boost the dynamic range. I'm not a big fan myself, but thought it was worth a play - I have to say I like the lighthouse (apart from the gull). I could see that framed and being sold.

Beano - I used Coral PSP Photo X2 (piss easy).

I assume you mean the vehicle not the photo!

Owner bloke lives near me but can only get to his house by boat, so he leaves it parked in the village (about 10 yards from the sea) 24/7 (for the past 20 years) and about once a month gets into it and it starts every time!

I must ask him sometime how many batteries it has.

+1. fun to play with but better suited to photographers who actually need the gimmicks!

I thought this thread would divide opinions!

I still think this has merit in a surreal way (if worked on - and minus the fking gull). There is something about the doorway I really like.

Cheers guys. As I suspected photograpers hate it. (I think bubble gum sums it up). However, I dipped a toe in the water and non-photographere are wetting themselves. I've already had two e mails asking me for prints!

No pleasing all the people is there.

Yes Steve meant the vehicle. Probably got a battery isolator.

I'm not that stuck on the HDR stuff - but think it's personal choice - some images suit it, others don't.

Have to agree - don't like most HDR I see but the fact that yours are good shots in the first place makes a fundamental difference to them. Still prefer your normal work though!

I think this one would make a great book cover:

It has the look of airbrushed acrylic or gouache. Maybe something Kit Williams would have done.
