Hi all....

I'm looking for a A4 for my dad, needs to be an estate, and diesel - not too bothered by anything else!

Just wondered whether there is anything to look out for - which engine is the best economy vs power - I guess the 2.0TDI in the newer cars, so they come in varying outputs like the old 1.9TDI?

And tangible benefits to the sportline kit, other than a harder ride and better looks?

Don't know much about Audis, so any general advice/suggestions appreciated! budget about 10K, lowish mileage....The floor is yours!!!

Why the 2.5 over the 2.0? That much better - not really looking for a sporty car.

And also: A B6?! That's the 'old' one - there are tons of B7s around for the cash!

NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOoooooo!!! 2.5TDI is a dog. Nothing but oil leaks and expensive pump and turbo failures. 2.0TDI B7 is the way to go.

B6 is a bit dated looking and the dynamics leave something to be desired sadly. Both 1.9 and 2.5 are rough old dogs by modern standards.

B7 is a nice enough beasty, I've currently got a TDI170 Special Edition outside. 140 is not quite enough if you've even the slightest of interests in cars so I'd go for a 170, a 2.7 or a 3.0 if economy is not your number one priority. Gains steering, suspension, interior and obvious styling changes over the B6 too.

170 will do about 31 around town and 38 on the motorway unless you drive like a total namby pamby where it will do 35 and 46-47. 140 the same as you're driving it harder.

Not much in the way of feedback through the helm but they grip and steer well enough, SE is a boat so steer clear!

1.9 most economical, best in 130bhp form. 2.0tdi is either 140bhp or 170bhp; former seems less responsive at low revs than the 1.9. 2.5 is a complete waste of time - uneconomical and heavy.

I would suggest a b6. Not a huge fan personally of the new one looks wise unless in sport guise.

Engine wise I would go 1.9tdi 130 with a remap to around 150 ish for +-500 squid.
You then get punch as well as economy. Only let down with the 1.9 is that it is quite agricultural by the time it hits 100k miles though once on the move you wont notice.

There are millions! Have you not noticed what has happened to the car market?! Monaro @15K? yes please...but don't think I'll be able to convince the old man!

B7 170TDI it is then - with Sportsline if possible....Thanks for the help all!

B7 170 TDI for £10k is pushing it a bit, unless its done mega-miles.

Hi All

Im looking for the same car. Can you tell me the difference between the B6 and B7. Is the B7 the one with the massive square grille? When did the B7 come out, 2004? Was the 2.0 a replacement for the 1.9 or did they run concurrently?

Cheers!

B6 is the one that came out in 2001, and B7 is the facelifted one that came in 2004, with the big grille. The B6 had 1.9 TDIs, and B7 introduced the 2.0 TDI (but sold alongside the 115bhp 1.9 tdi) and some other new engines.
