Car over heating

Hi,

Just got back from a 100mile round trip this morning, I have noticed the water temp rising quicker than normal recently going upto around 110 in traffic but then cooling down very quickly to around 90 when on the move again. The water sensor warning has been coming on and off intermittently but it just resets it self and I thought it was another TVR quirk.

Any way this morning the temp hit 115 and plooms of steam came from the engine then it went away after about 10s, it never happened again, when I stopped at the other end I checked the water and it needed just under a litre of water.

On the way home the temp still hit around 110 in traffic but on the move around 90, no steam though.

Have spoken with David Hendry’s and it is going in to be looked at Fri.

Anyone have any thoughts.

Hi...

Sounds like the temp sensor which manages the fans. I had exact same problem, got both sensors replaced (ie x1 to ECU and x1 to dash) and the car never goes above 92 degrees now whilst sitting in heavy traffic (when moving it drops to low 80's).

Any evidence of water spatter under the bonnet?

Mine did this a few weeks ago and was traced to a loose hose connection by my local indy.

I guess the spray pattern and location is dependent on the location of the 'leak' but it might a good place to start.

I got a temperature warning on the dash a couple of times: IIRC it was error 15 - I think this is a warning about the water temperature rather than a sensor error.
