Sorry another Cerb Question
Discussion
I have owned my cerb now for two weeks, I have noticed twice now that when it is hot (above 90) when I go to press the red button to shut the engine off it takes around 10-30 seconds to shut down. Is this because it is waiting for the fans to cool the engine slightly before shutting down?
Sorry for all the questions but having owned 2 Chims before this is a different beast altogehter..

Does it kind of chug a bit, try to die, but keep just firing and turning over? If that is the case it sounds like its running on (carbon deposits in the combustion chamber).
If the engine just carries on completely normally, and then dies normally, then I'm not sure. Experience would point me in the way of a short, or the coil packs, but they are just guesses really.

You've clearly got the turbo conversion, and someone's fitted a turbo timer to keep the oil circulating!
But seriously, 10 - 20 seconds is a long time for an engine to run on carbon deposits, and anyway, how would the engine have ignition, as the ecu should cut out?
If the ecu still has power, then I would look for a sticky relay in the fuse box.

I think this might be it, it just runs fine as if you have not pushed the button and then after about 10 seconds dies...only happened twice though never happened when the engine was less than 90 on the temp though..But seriously, 10 - 20 seconds is a long time for an engine to run on carbon deposits, and anyway, how would the engine have ignition, as the ecu should cut out?

Agree with the sticky relay theory.
This sounds like the opposite of the intermittent starter problem associated with the immobiliser.
However, does the Red "stop" button also go through the immobiliser ?
To the OP.....Does the ignition light go off instantly ? Obviously the fuel pump doesn't stop instantly.

ECU power goes through the immobiliser but is controlled from the ignition ECU in the boot. Same goes for the fuel pump which is controlled by the ECU. So if there is power to the ECU there will be power to the fuel pump providing the engine is still running. If the red button is working then it should instantly kill verything (including the radio/CD). If this is playing up I would suspect that the engine would carry on as normal and it would be as if the red button wasn't working. If the engine carries on but sounds rough then there is a serious problem. It is possible for glowing carbon deposits to cause the engine to continue and I have heard of engines using their own oil as a fuel (mainly diesels) it has to be said. May even be possible that there are some leaky injectors that are putting fuel in even when everything is switched off.
A diesel can keep running on it's oil because it uses auto ignition. I can't see how an ajp could keep firing, be it on oil, carbon deposits, or petrol if it didn't have a spark. Then again, I suppose if it was seriously hot it might be able to compression ignite petrol. Surely then it would always run badly when hot?
As Steve says, take note when it happens next time whether your radio goes off straight away or stays on with the engine.
I take it you're only pushing the stop button once rather than holding it down (just in case it's something as simple as a faulty switch)

I once had an issue with my GT6 running on. Turns out I had left the oil filler cap off, and for some reason this was causing it to run on when hot. Can't think why myself, but once I put the cap back on (which miraculously had remained exectly where I had put it by the battery when I topped the car up) it all ran normally again. I assume it was something to do with crank gasses being recirculated due to pressure variations... or something!
Nothing to do with this issue, but cars can run on for very strange reasons...

Don't think it is the switch as it only happens about once in 5-10 times.. Push the Red button and the car then shuts off around 10-20 seconds later..the electrics are still running aswell.. So I reckon it may be the ignition box relay needs a clean maybe..As Steve says, take note when it happens next time whether your radio goes off straight away or stays on with the engine.

I don't think it is doing any of the above as I can still hear the blower, fuel pump and radio on when I press the button..As I understand it the cerbera has a two fan cycle, whenever the car is on both these fans around 95 on the temp gauge this is when the Red button does not shut the engine off instantly. Once the fans have cycled and cooled the engine to 90 or less again the engine just shuts down. In summary therefore I press the red button a few times and wait around 30-60 seconds for the fans to do their cycle and then the engine dies. The car is a 1997 4.2 with aircon, the aircon is not running during any of this. It never does this when the car is below 90, and it only does it about 1 in 3 times when the temp is above 90.
Any thoughts as Fernhurst checked all the connections and they are all fine and obviously could not replicate the problem.?

should kill the engine dead. So you press and release the button and then some time later the engine stops?!
