I'm looking for recommendations please for the best book(s) for a prospective owner to read. What I am after is a reasonably detailed overview of all model specs, S1 and S2, preferably including some opinions and buying/ownership advice.
Thanks.

Not sure about books, but there is a good overview of the models here: http://www.elises.co.uk/models/index.html

Look in the Buyers Guide sticky at the top of this very forum, shedloads of useful links.

I don't know that there is a single book that covers all the different Elise/Exige varients (there's loads of them).
There's loads on info on line though. The suggested links are good and a trwal through the Seloc archives will keep you busy for hours.
What car is best for you really domes down to your intended use and how 'hardcore' you will tolerate. Most of us are happy to answer questions and although you'll get differences of opinion there's normally a discernable trend you can pick out.

As above, read all the buyers guide and wiki stuff to get a good idea of what to look out for.

In terms of published material, this makes a great coffee table book and is a smashing read:

Got that one, agree it's a good read, be nice for something similar covering the later years 2-11, Exige developments etc but this is a good keepsake/coffee table balancer!
