The Cross Fell route - I'm on the Fat Chance, making up the numbers
Is that you?
I was, er, on the throne last night, and I remember reading it thinking "Jesus Christ, that's a bike from the past" and noting that your tyre was a little under inflated as you were bottoming out the front on a rock

Excellent

That route was a bit of a bugger for tyre pressures - at times, as you spotted, it felt under-inflated, at other times it felt far too firm and over-harsh. Perhaps a pair of forks is in order. Or perhaps keep that bike fully retro and find a new more modern ride to complement it...

Justifying it is my difficulty - I don't ride the Yo Eddy or the 'dale roadie enough as it is, so splashing a wedge of cash on another toy is tempting but requires some thought.
Mate, you know you can always justify it using the equation:Amount of bikes a man needs = N + 1
Where N = amount of bikes the man currently has.
Plus, you know now we won't let this go, you might as well burn the money, or let us tell you what to buy

Fat Chance Yo Eddie ... my dream bike from back in the day
Responsible for eating my first student loan in 1994. Still feels wonderful to ride, very responsive, lovely balance. The MBR guys enjoyed the retro-fest when I turned up on it (Pace RC30 forks, Salsa stem, Thumbshifters, Hyperlite bars, etc, etc).
I think I'll pop up to the Lakes again and take a few test rides from Keswick Mountain Bikes (Max, the manager, is an old school friend) to whet my appetite for another steed.
