just bought a BMW 523i petrol Auto 1998, drove from uk to spain no problem.
but then started to overheat gauge in red, took to a garage here they leak fron radiator, changed that, but now air pressure build up within seconds, checked water pump seems ok, sombody said it could be the head gasket, all plugs have no water on them. but smoke smell from expantion tank.

Can anybody help me please................

Cheers Lee.

Mayonaise in oil filler cap?

With the engine stone cold, run it for about a minute and then remove the coolant cap, there should be no pressure there at all (as the coolant hasn't expanded yet).

Does sound a bit like a head gasket problem to be honest.

What exactly do you mean by too much pressure? What happens?

when i turn the engine over there is a build up of pressure straight away its air pressure if you leave the top of the expantion tank, it now smells of exhaust smoke not a good sign ive been told,

i drove the car to the garage its about 5 miles, to change the radiator and there was only about 1 and half litres of water came out when he took the old one off,

ive got a funny feeling i may have blown the head gasket then what do you think.

I think its FUBAR. They warp the heads easily, and don't take kindly to a second set of head bolts.

Sadly, it is showing signs of head gasket failure, it does tick all the boxes.

Before jumping the gun, remove the water pump and check the impellor is still attached. If the car has overheated 99% of the time the plastic impellor falls off. This will cause the symptoms you have.
