...killer pass, defence sliced open and the attack on a team's goal is serious and threatening... a player goes to ground grabbing a part of his body, clearly indicating he's been severely injured.

Result: game halted, thus attack thwarted. In the name of true sportsmanship, the ball is then kicked back to the attacking team (but usually way back into their own half).

Then there are the so called 'world class' players who go to ground so easily... like Drogba, Ronaldo, Gerrard etc...

Are these cheats / cheating tactics widley accepted now?

Cheating will never be acceptable unless the cheat plays for the team you support

It's why I follow non league, I got sick of all the cheating and bit'chyness going on in league football. With non league spectators so closely involved players wouldn't dare pull half those strokes and If they try it soon escalates to an all round general piss take. Good solid football with players giving and taking.

It is even creeping into Rugby but thank God it's not as wide spread as in Soccer. Gerrard is a past master at 'winning' free kicks/penalties if Liverpool are losing with 10 mins to go.Same M O every time, run into a defender and throw yourself to the ground.

There has always been cheating in Rugby. Perhaps more of it gets seen on TV these days.
