You're being too subtle mate.

Lets try that again:

I think it will prevent 3,000 injuries.

Now prove it won't! Can't can you? It's impossible to prove that something that didn't happen hadn't happened for some particular reason ... unless you are a statistician, and you are talking to a complete moron.

Oh, bugger, looks like as long as we have Reality TV, Cilla on Saturdays, and the Daily W*nk and other tabloids, we're in trouble!

how many injuries will it cause when thousands of people are banned, lose jobs, mortgage, and then turn to violent crime to make ends meet???

Don't think they follow these things to the logical conclusion. SPECS is EVIL.

The other thing about specs, is that once you realise you've been speeding, you have to slow down to a level where it becomes dangerous to people following you.

SPECS has recently been installed on the A43 near Northampton (dual carriageway with a ridiculously low 50mph limit).

In a press release on 30/8/2001, Robin Hodsdon, Head of Highway Services at Northamptonshire County Council said that many on the accidents on this stretch of road "involve vehicles turning across the carriageway being hit by main road traffic, predominantly as a result of speed misjudgement."

HOW IS SPECS GOING TO STOP PEOPLE TURNING OUT OF JUNCTIONS WITHOUT LOOKING PROPERLY?

I drive this road occasionally and have to spend 99% of my time concentrating on keeping my speedometer dead on 50. Faster and you get caught, slower and you get people tailgating you dangerously close. 1% of my time is spent concentrating on hazards such as "vehicles turning across the carriageway".

SPECS will not cut accidents. It will cause some and it may move some to other roads as people avoid using roads with SPECS cameras.

Fortunately, the SPECS system on the A43 in Northampton is very badly thought out. If you're local and use the dual carriageway to go between estates, you only pass one camera before you have to turn off, so the locals ignore the limit, tailgating the drivers that have to go along the whole system!

Bloody statistics designed to be quotable headlines. Bugger it.

We need to know injuries per number of cars per fixed segment of road, or something like that. Something that takes account of increased or decreased traffic volume. Probably decreased, with drivers finding another route.

What a bunch of arse.

Oh great. Obviously a lot of thought went into the design of this bastard system...

Enough thought that it traps the majority of road users, but exempts the locals.

What happens if you have a "name" plate on your car, like the truck drivers do? ("DAVE") Does SPECS pick this up, or the actual number plate?
