We are thinking of taking advantage of the tumbling prices of performance cars and upgrading our little Golf. Trouble is I have no idea how much to ask...

It is:

2002 Golf GTI Anniversary (150PD engine)

3 Doors, black with correct Anniversary trim/wheels.

80,000 miles (ish).

FSH - VW dealer until this year, then specialist.

It is mechanically sound - spent 2k over the past 6 months on various bits and pieces inc 4 new Goodyear tyres, anti roll bar, full service etc.

It looks smart, obviously at 80k it shows some signs of wear, but nothing untoward and nothing out of the ordinary for the age/mileage.

lol according to whatcar your golf never existed

If your selling privately I would price it higher than the quotes the last guy posted, as they are part-ex values. Look on eBay and autotrader to see what similar cars are going for should give you some idea what to expect.

Sorry should have said, thats trade money, I posted.

Retail (Private sale) definitely aim higher, although you will never get the asking prices you see on auto trader, everyone get haggled down a bit. Point is, don't let it go for less than the trade price.

Cambelt changes ?
Rear axle bushes changed ?
When were the cooling fans replaced - there isn't one of these that hasn;t had the fan resistor burn out.

I ask as these itesm normally need doing by 80k and cost a fair bit. If done I'd guess at £7-£8k ?

You are joking, a 6 year old, 80,000 mile golf is never gonna fetch that sort of money.

Was a guess.
However, you'd be surprised what a VW Golf enthusiast will pay for these special edition models.

Thanks for the comments.

I'll probably just end getting bummed by the dealer on the trade in or lack of discount on the new car anyway. I don't think I can bare the thought of going through the hassle of selling privately.

Belts done on time, 2 sets of fans over the 6 years (last time was only a few months ago), bushes done. Its the diesel, rather than the petrol.

I'm not sure if this engine is known as the chocolate engine (1.9, 150pd) - I thought they were pretty bulletproof, just fans, ac compressors, window mechs, anti-roll bars... ....

ETA - just realised there is a Golf GTI section of the classifieds and loads on there... http://pistonheads.com/sales/list.asp?s=826&di...

I'd been looking at the normal golf section - no wonder I couldnt find any to compare mine to!

Its actually a chocolate camshaft in the engine on the PD 150's, (ARL engine) mine went at 68k miles and whilst in the dealers being fixed, another turned up with exactly the same problems. I got very good will because i had full service history, the other had to pay over 2k for his woes, he didnt have the history. If yours hast gone and been replaced, its about to wink

Tonker - get back to your corporate law shenanigans and stop talking the value of my car down wink

I know 8k is nuts, you know 8k is nuts but if thats what people will pay (and I'm not convinced, although 7k would be nice) then who am I to not take that price?

Clearly.
Madness to you and me but looking at classfieds there a a few advertised between £7 and £8k which appear to have sold. I doubt the sellers would have dropped £000s off the price.
To an enthusiast a Mk5 2.0 Tdi is nothing compared to a Mk4 25th Anniversary.

I suspect £7-8K is about the money for a Ani PD.
It is amazing what used VW's go for just look at Corrado's, 1995/6 VR6 in good condition with hist and lowish miles can still fetch £5-7K.

7.5k should see it gone by the looks of things, maybe 7k for a reasonably painless deal.

Lol at how much cheaper the Anniversary petrols are - 3k is a lot of petrol wink

lol - the ultimate pink insult stopped the thread in its tracks!

As nice as it looks (IMO) it isnt really in the same league as an Escort cossie (although drive one today - they really arent fast anymore). I'd argue it was a pretty pink escort cab either though.

Tonks - what do you think its value is? I was going to say worth, but thats a little more subjective and I think you've drawn your line in the sand on that one.
