Most unusual of bald patches... above my lip.

So normally after a couple of days I get very 'stubbly' - but have noticed, today, that to the right of my top lip, is a small round patch, missing hair... about 6-7 hairs, so it's only a couple of mm in diameter, but it's bloody annoying. It looks a little bit like someone who put a shaver to their eye brow... but on the top of my lip. The hair shows no sign of coming back.

Oh dear.

Any ideas?

rofl

Probably alopecia. It cums and it goes, so to speak. I get it occasionally, disappears after a few months.

Your OH is secretly shaving you in the night. It's a hint that she prefers you smooth.

Just looked up alopecia on wikipedia, not nice.

Hope it doesn't spread. I've been pretty stressed lately with work, I wonder if it's a 'trigger'.

Hmm.... weeping

Stress supposedly is a trigger apparently, but I thing it might also be hereditary. My uncle is bald as a coot (whatever that is) sister loses a patch of hair on her head for a few months every decade or so.

I wouldn't worry if I were you, like I said, it comes and goes, and when it does come, it is only a few months of it interspaced by 5+ years between bouts.

You know that Gail Porter? She had the same thing. In fact you'll find this balding is stress related. So it's very important not to worry about your impending total bodily hairloss, leading to self-loathing and the shrivelling of your self-respect. Look on the brightside and your subsequent career as a Telly Savalas impersonator.

T'Internet said:
Coots are water birds whose heads have the appearance of baldness. This doesn't refer to the lack of feathers on the bird's head, but to their white markings. Bald has several meanings, one of which is 'streaked or marked with white'. That's the meaning here, as in pie-bald.

The phrase is very old and is referred to in John Lydgate's Chronicle of Troy, 1430:

"And yet he was as balde as is a coote."

Don't panic.

I get it from time to time in my beard and also recently got a patch on the back of my my head which has all but grown back from the size of a 50p to a few hairs missing now.

Stress is the most usual and as someone who is better at 'sucking up' stress than most I just treat it as a good warning to chill out for a bit.
