Well it would be a nice theory if you could replace your existing lump with that one.
It would be nice to think if it is still a cologne that all your existing bits are compatible - though you might want to invest in an aftermarket ECU.
Better get a hot standby gearbox too
Gotta be a very cheap option if it fits, even your exhaust should work.

I've heard that the sump needs to be altered slightly. We need definate information. I've also heard 210bhp and 251 ib/ft is as standard so breathing right and mapped out properly should be powerful unit.
4.0 v6 or 4.0 v8?
Supercharged, turbo charged, 24v...possibilities are endless. Just want option to cause as little headache as possible.

Hi
Check out this very interesting site: http://xr4.estrant.pri.ee/tekstid.php. (Lots of other stuff on Google) Seems the 4.0 liter is considerably taller than the 2.9, and isn't regarded as a very good engine. Standard power 205bhp, though lots of torque. Also based on 2.8 originally so may be problems with ECU and sensors etc. Cosworth would seem a better option, Andy

Info from the seller:
As I understand it, the block is pretty much standard Cologne, but the heads are unique; they have three exhaust ports. I am having to have tubular headers made to fit the Gilbern, as in fact Gilbern had to do to get the Essex in.
The tall ally bit in the photo is the upper intake manifold. The fuel rail is an alloy casting that mounts between this and the lower manifold. As used in the US-spec, it uses a single throttle body and a mass air sensor in front of the intake. I am intending to do the same on the other engine, since, having an autobox that requires signals from the Ford EEC-IV brain, I wanted to keep the system as Ford designed it; I am getting a Pro-M Mass Air sender sent over from Michigan to do it.
I did speak, some time ago, to a TVR specialist, who had a way to mount 2.9 Cosworth heads on this engine, but once I decided that I needed to keep it as originally designed in order for my autobox to work, I did not pursue the matter further. I have never looked at a 2.8 for comparison, so couldn't venture an opinion.
Sorry I can't tell you more!
Thanks for your interest, Dave
