Hi,

I am about to buy a set of spanners and sockets to maintain my 1992 4.3 Griffith, do I need Metric or AF?

Thanks

Bit of both, the suspension is mainly imperial, so is the engine, but metric is used around the car too.

Imp allen keys are prob most difficult tools to get. There are only a few big metric fasteners around the car AFIK M10/12 most others are odd small m5/6/8, a decent imp socket set would cover a lot more of the fasteners on the car I reckon. Most of the 'tough' stuff is imperial IMO.

Hmmm,

Sounds like I'd be better to spend a bit more and get a mixed set. Any special sizes or other tools I should look out for?

Thanks
Nick

Ebay is your friend for imperial stuff - most of it is old now so if it was rubbish it would have been broken long ago - only decent stuff is still left around.
I bought a massive trunk of tools for £35, a lot of which was imperial and real old school indestructible quality.
Look on ebay for the stuff thats near you and pickup only - it will go for peanuts.

Greetings Nick,
Dont say you are pulling it apart already! Its worth looking at "Teng" tools on ebay as they do some really good socket sets.

Cheers Neil

FWIW Halfords have their "professional 150 piece set" on discount again at £99: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/...

The two kit car builders/track racer nuts in my street and myself have this and like it.

It's a bargain; and if you've access to a Halfords Trade Card you'll get a further 30% off that too.

All ground work done Dave yes Spoke to Piper this morning and the CD2000 should be delivered a week on Wednesday woohoo they will supply all the necessary lifting and lowering equipment we need.

Only problem at the moment is finding Large enough cooling fans but all the extraction is installed as is the sound proofing.smile
