Afer an incident on the M! at the weekend (long story) I got stopped by the Traffic Police for doing an (and I quote the officer) 'indecent' speed (albeit for a very short blip.

However as I sat there on the hard shoulder trying to work out how long the ban might be, the smiling plod dropped into the passenger seat, waxed lyrical about the car, suggested that sticking to the speed limit was effectively optional on a nice clear road as it was, suggested I joined the IAM so that I'd be more likely to spot plod in future and sent me on my way smiling after shaking my hand.

Considering myself unbelieveably fortunate I tootled home at a more discrete rate.

Anyone else got away with a warning for 3 figure speeds?

I met 2 of the nicest BiBs ever on the M25 about 3 years back... was just before midnight, and myself and a man called 'Kev' (well that was his numberplate anwyay!) were making spirited progress in the outside lane together (all very sensible, no traffic etc... me in Esprit him in 355). both got pulled by a police bike which was shortly joined by a traff car... The biker hopped off, and said "bloody hell, that side wind over the bridge nealy took me off (was coming up to M1 junc)...really kicks at 120"). I think we both expected that was the end of the road before they did exactly the same as with you...chatted about the cars, agreed they'd observed us both being sensible but did we know the penalty for exceeding 100.... smiled, wished us well and said if they saw us doing it again we'd be introduced to Bubba...and then left! never been so relieved in my life

Lucky Boy! It would've been a bit sad to get a ban so quickly after getting the car.

I've had more points than years but have had a clean licence for the last four or five years. Nearly ruined it last year though. First sign of summer and I decided I'd take my MV down the M3 rather than the car. I was enjoying myself and slowed down as I approached Southampton where a police car that had been trying to follow me managed to catch up. Luckily they could only clock me around the ton mark (I was going rather a lot quicker) and then they cocked up on the procedure which allowed me to keep my clean licence. I'm now very careful and only really let loose in Spain, Italy or Germany.

Cheers

I think that about sums it up! Still good to now there are some decent BiB out there, but I won't be chancing it again, unlikely to be that lucky next time!

glad to hear this Mr T...Good policing,,no one got hurt thankfully..you now realise the error of your ways and having been let off,you appreciate that and have a respect for the BIB. Obviously they realised you were not doing anything silly in a 30mph zone or near a school so handled it in a fair manner.

Years ago driving am orange MG 'B' GT down the M6 near Stoke in the rain, flashed a white Jag to let me past in the third lane.

He moved over and, as I drew alongside and looked across, it was a copper!

I must have looked pretty sick because he simply smiled and waved me on.

I don't think that anything he might have said would have made me feel less a pratt, but at least it saved points off my licence.
