Sorry for my ignorance but how do these guys scam you?

What's the type of story they tell you, as I can't imagine even the thickest e-jit would fall for this.

Perfect example of this scam on a well known auction site at the min. A classified ad for a Lotus elise S1 appears, absolute mint condition, seller listed as being in Chorley. I emailed through the site and got a reply within a few mins asking me to email directly. I then asked a few simple questions that a genuine Lotus owner would know (such as C service etc) and also asked if i could view the car, as im up that way often having lived near there nearly all my life.

I then got a very long winded email explaining that they'd recently moved to Madrid, and were forced to put the car into storage......in LONDON! I was assured the car was in the best condition it could be in and that if i completed the payment of £5000 (the asking price) then i would have the car delivered to my door within 2 days. I could then look at the car and if i was unhappy they would refund my money in full. They also added (the icing on the cake!) that i had no need to worry, because i would be covered completly by the website. And guess what, the mr i had been talking to turned out to be a Sarah!

How stupid some people must be to fall for this!!!!

Just received a reply from 'Tony' regarding the exige for sale........


My Lotus is in excellent condition, it has never been crashed or damaged in any way, HPI
clear,also the tires are as good as new. This great vehicle was always garaged,never
smoked in,not even a mark,dent or scratch on the paintwork,full service records
available!
Genuine reason for requesting a fast sale,my asking price is £8,200.
