Gallardo Running costs
Discussion
Hi Guys
I was wondering if you could share your experiences please, i am new to idea of owning a Gallardo. I have heard so many stories about these cars costing a bit to run and maintain the figures i have been quoted are:
Clutch: £3k every 17k miles
Minor service: £750 every 7500 miles?
Major service: £1300
4 tyres: £700
Full Tank of Petrol £80 for £250 miles
Do these cars lose £2000 a month?
Do you find it hard to park these cars when you take them out
1) because you might get scared someone will steel it or dent it
2) because it's such a long car to fit into spaces
3) becuase you may not be able to drive these cars in a 4 story car park
Is it practical to use these cars everyday? Or do you have a second car?
I figured if i bought one of these i would probs use it 10% of the time.
Sorry if these sound like silly questions and I know it's hard to be exact due to different driving conditions but for people who actually own a gallardo would you be so kind to stare your stories please?
Thank you

Clutch may last 300 miles or 50,000, it depends how you drive it I was wondering if you could share your experiences please, i am new to idea of owning a Gallardo. I have heard so many stories about these cars costing a bit to run and maintain the figures i have been quoted are:

Minor service is more like £1k and £2k for the major..........
Tank of petrol was more like £90 for 200 miles........

They don't lose £2k a month...........
No harder to park a G than anyother car.......
Long car? Its the shortest car I've ever had!!
You can easily drive it every day.............
"Clutch": Depends on age/clutch revision and how it has been used according to other historical posts on here.
"Minor service": My first one was £1350 at Lamborghini London, plus about another £400 for the tracking. Annoying to have to spend that but it transformed the handling so much I'm happy they did it and don't think too much about how it may have been out at time of delivery.
"Major service": Haven't had one yet so can't comment
"Tyres" - rears around £350 each, fronts around £220
"Full Tank of Petrol": I've had one £80 fill when the prices were at their peak recently, probably more like £70 now. Unlikely to get much more than 200 miles from it depending how it's driven. Will probably average about 15mpg if driven slightly sensibly, 20 on a long cruise.
Do these cars lose £2000 a month? - depends entirely on the model/age/colour/condition/spec. I had mine from new as a cancelled order and I'd guess that it has lost about £50k since I had it in July 2007 - although this is probably more to do with the current economic climate. An early car won't be as good a drive but will lose a lot less.
"Do you find it hard to park these cars when you take them out"
"1) because you might get scared someone will steel it or dent it:" That's something most people worry about regardless of the car. The vast majority of people tend to be very respectful towards it but you will most likely be concerned to some extent depending on where it is that you have left it.
"2) because it's such a long car to fit into spaces": It's not long at all. It's slightly wider than average and the wheels are very easy to scrape on a kerb if you aren't excessively careful.
"3) becuase you may not be able to drive these cars in a 4 story car park": Depends on the car park. If some of the ramps are heavily angled in the slope to flat transition you might run a slight scraping risk but the car is surprisingly good at coping with things like that. Optional lifting system gives you better clearance than most family cars.
"Is it practical to use these cars everyday? Or do you have a second car?" I have another car as a workhorse (Audi A4 Avant), but I wish I didn't work from home so I could use it as a daily driver ;-) I tend to get antsy if I haven't driven it at least once a week and I've clocked up 9k miles in it in just over a year.

You need to think about your mindset from a financial perspective before doing it. For me, I have this car because at this point in my life I can, and that may change in the future so I want to enjoy it for now and be glad I did when I'm older. Cost should always be secondary to the enjoyment you get from the car, you just need to decide if you can afford it without worrying about the cost all the time. If you are confident you can, then it's a decision you won't regret.
I find the car so beautiful to look at and so thrilling to drive that I'm glad I made the decision. While the financial cost is painful given the depreciation, I don't regret it for a moment. I find it such a beautiful car to look at and so thrilling to drive, I can't personally think of anything I'd rather have at the moment car-wise.

I agree with most everything below.
Tank of fuel costs more for me, I use premium fuel, BP Ultimate, my choice but I can feel the difference between that and std fuel, the car is a lot happier and more responsive.
I get 18-22mpg as an average, could be helped by the fuel, who knows.
Seen ?70 on the clock
, car was stable and planted.
I don't regret buying it for one second. I bought well and have only lost about 20K in same period as UVB.
Personally I would wait till after christmas to buy, I think prices are still falling. But let your heart rule your head if the exact colour combination you want comes up, I haven't seen another like mine since buying it.
