SL 320 drivers door mirror

Can any one help?
My mate as a 1998 SL 320 and needs a new drivers door mirror glass (the current one is discoloured). He got one from the main dealer for £51.00 but it was the wrong part. The dealer now tells him the right part will be £285 !!!!!
Does any one know where he can source one from? We've tried google, ebay etc. but can't find any SL 320's.

That must be a mistake for just a door mirror glass.

Try Dronsfields in Oldham,they are a large Mercedes breakers-they should have one.

I know it sounds a stupid amount but he did check with them twice. They said it was because of the heater element and anti glare effect. Sounds a load of cp to me.

That is the correct price. The driver's door mirror is self-dipping, just like the internal rear view mirror. And they discolour or fail after about 3years. Not very impressive. The solution is to fit a non-self-dipping mirror glass (it was an optional feature) which costs £51 from the dealer.
