Dry sump tank size
Discussion
Using a SBC 377 with 7K rev limit. What volume of dry sump tank did you use.
As a reference point the side shifter that CMS sells for the G50/52 will not allow use of the factory tank on the LHD chasis with the tank positioned on the left of the trans axle.
My plan now is to use a center exit muffler as Grant has done and place a 6" diameter tank in the rear left of the transaxle.

Hi Ken,
I'm using the 2 gallon Peterson tank as supplied by Jeff Schwartz for my LS7 and it works great on and off the track. The LS7 moves a lot of oil and the tank doesn't have any trouble with starvation at high rpm's. It is mounted in the forward area of the engine compartment on the right side of the car. It is a great location because it keeps the hose length to a minimum and thus reduces the effort exerted by the oil pump. I had to make a custom bracket to hold the tank but it wasn't too involved. I too am using a G50/52 with CMS side shifter and considered a location in the back but felt this location was superior. Here is a link to the tanks:

Good luck,

Thanks for the quick reply, glad to hear from someone with track time as this is what I'm after. 2 gallons it is.
I've thought about mounting it up there but I have some gas lines that allow filling both tanks from one side that would complicate things so this is the plan:
- use spintech dual 3"inlet and outlet muffler mounted in the center or to the right in the rear of the engine compartment
- use a 2 gallon peterson tank in the left rear of the engine compartment (will protrude above the top chassis rail but remain well under the engine cover
I'm looking forward to getting the car back on the road, it has 12K+ miles so far but has been apart for almost a year after a low oil pressure light prompted me to take it apart (rear thrust bearing had worn, no other damage).
Thanks again for your help,
ken

19.5 x 6" Peterson tank will clear the engine cover with room to spare when fitted to the location occupied by the factory tank. It also clears the CMS side shifter, something the factory tank does not unfortunately (I now have to sell this, it is brand new and has a single -16 return line to save on the number of lines used from the pump).
Will use a single Spintech muffler with dual 3" inlets and outlets mounted near the middle of the chassis over the transaxle. When I removed the factory mufflers I had to wonder again what made them a good choice, immediately after the exhaust enters the case it meets a pipe that is 2.5" in diameter.
I have spoken with Roger about fabricating another bracket for the lateral gate cable mount, the one that they already have will not clear the rearmost chassis cross member.
The end is in sight.

Ken, I have a 2 gallon Peterson tank for sale - brand new if your interested & I might be in the market for some sort of a swop for your factory tank....I've thought about mounting it up there but I have some gas lines that allow filling both tanks from one side that would complicate things so this is the plan:
