Had this as a question in a quiz a couple of weeks ago. To be honest for a tall person it seemed pretty dangerous. If you kept your arms up you could hit stuff.

Yep thats it now. We went a few weeks ago for one last ride. my 6yo daughter just made the height restrictions for it and loved it...

The corkscrew is almost 30 years old, so fairly old hat now. It looks tiny compared to rita queen of speed that runs round it...


I also expect there is a major overhaul due to keep it going so not considered worth it... still seemed fairly popular mind when i was there

Only found out about this today. Shame, I would have made a point of going this summer had I known it would be the last chance. We've been meaning to go up there every year for the last decade and never got round to it. Was the first "proper" modern coaster I went on, before that I'd only been on the Looping Star and Scenic Railway at Margate.

Understandable, really. It's 30 years old, and is pretty poor in comparison with most of the other rides. Just a shame that it's a piece of Roller Coaster history..

I remember going on that when it was new, the year before it opened all that was at Alton Towers was a very small water slide, the Chinese gardens, cable way and rowing boats on the lake. How old do i feel.

that thing is iconic, I remember wanting to ride that as a kid, but the one time ive been there was when nemesis was brand new and we rode that a lot instead.

Legend says they wanted to get rid of it for years and use the space for something fancier but then realised it was in the middle of their logo, so were stuck...
