Has anyone else heard of this problem? I have just been reading a thread on singletrack about king headsets scoring fork steerers. it appears to be a problem on long travel forks ir >125mm!! I have just fitted a king headset to my bike with 160mm forks on it!!

Yes, it's fairly common knowledge.

The trouble is, the design is donkey's years old, and lacks the compression ring of most modern, better designs.

It's more of an issue on some steerers than others as some use a softer alloy.

That & the infamous King Creak biggrin

Better headsets out there for most applications now, sorry.

I run a King with 150mm 36's and there's no mark on mine.

TBH I've had it on for about 18months now and totaly forgetable. Had it fitted and not needed to go near it.
