Ferrari Scuderia Spyder

Scuderia loses its head to become fastest ever Ferrari drop top

Ferrari has taken the wraps off of the new Scuderia Spider 16M, which will be strictly limited to 499 examples. The Italian carmaker had denied the car would ever be created despite what appeared to be a sneak preview during the launch of the California a few months ago.

But this weekend at the Ferrari World Finals in Mugello the Spider 16M was unveiled to the world and has been built to commemorate the company’s 16th F1 constructor’s title. It is the fastest open top car around the Fiorano circuit they have ever built.

It is available in a choice of two new signature colour schemes: the standard version is black with grey trim, while a tricolour livery is also available as part of the Carrozzeria Scaglietti Personalisation Programme. The new car sports a special plaque on the rear grille and has another plaque just above the air vents at the centre of the dashboard.

Other exclusive features include a roll-bar with carbon-fibre outer shell and a specific new generation audio system that can be combined with the removable customised Ferrari iPod Touch 16 GB with central dock just in front of the dashboard.

From a technical point of view the car is basically a Scuderia with the top removed. It has a dry weight of 1340 Kg (80 kg lighter than the F430 Spider) The V8 produces 503bhp and means that the car can accelerate to 60mph in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 195mph.

Hmmm, are these really Ferrari official release pictures?

Several look a bit shady to my eyes.

Scuderia is a more track focused 430 so I'm not sure taking the roof off is the best idea when considering the loss of chassis stiffness and driver roll over protection.

At first I thought the idea of a Scuderia Spider was a bit of an oxymoron. But when you consider it basically gives you (regular) F430 Coupe performance with better access to that noise, it sounds rather nice indeed. biggrin

It probably is when the roof is up to prevent it ripping itself off!

Isn't the lambo murci convertible limited to some pants speed with the cloth roof on as well??
Would make sense if ferrari blagged the grammar mistake as meaning this instead!!

Should be quicker in some respects as it's lighter...

But how many people buy one for track use? and how many buy it simply because they can afford the most expensive 430 ?

Lying barstewards... if they lie and say the car doesn’t even exist then what’s their aftermarket sales service going to be like, ah you can’t trust these Italians. tongue out

Apparently one of Max Moseley's companies helped with the final details.

Sorry, ignore that, I misinterpreted the information I had. Apparently the FiA have helped Ferrari out with a few points.

Aren't F1 cars open topped?
