Hi there - have just come back into the fold - 1988 mini city totally rebuilt with mk1 rear light conversion and twin su cooper s engine.

The car still has it's original two clock binnacle but I'm not sure whetehr to go to 3 clock or switch to centre speedo for ultimate retro!

Question is what's involved swapping to centre clock? AKA How much of a pain in the arse is it?

The speedo at the moment is a 90mph - cheers for your help biggrin

Meant to say top rail isn't an issue.

The hard part (I think at least) is converting the wiring loom. IF it was me I would start off woth an early loom and change that to match. I dont know of any kit to do this but some one may make one?

i'm sure mini spares or one of the mini spares places does an extra loom you just plug into your later one that converts it to go straight into the old clock. i converted mine back to center and one of these looms were used to make the old wiring into the new clock wiring. but do be careful as if you are planning to do what i did and put a mk1 silver speedo in you will have to put a indicator warning light on the dash somewhere as the mk1 speedo didn't have it on there it's on the end of the stalk. i found out you need it for the MOT when mine failed

yi am currently doing this to my mini, you will need to get a conversion loom to change it from the offset clocks to the center clocks, you will also need to change the speedo cable, such a fidly job (well i found it to be today) both of these items can be purchased from minispares

as has been mentioned, minspares do an adaptor loom http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?ty=pb&p... and of course the speedo cable will need to be changed

you may also need to get different dash liners to suit the centre clock setup, and id recommend going for the centre speedo with an oil press gauge and water temp gauge either side (loads of these on ebay)
