Worth posting on here too - http://www.commencalownersclub.com/index.php?actio...
It's the epicentre for stolen bike trading in London. Seriously get yourself up there on Sunday (Sorry, I said saturday in my previous post) and a couple of mates who can handle themselves...
Good luck
Otherwise get in touch with the these Gentlemen mentioned in the first post here. At last, it seems the Council are doing something proactive about bike theft in the area.

If you give these chaps your bike details, they'll look out for it on their regular patrols through the market. It's a long shot, but worth it for such a nice bike.
Good luck

I registered to that forum, but cannot access the link, is it the immobilise one? If so I've signed up thanks!
I can't imagine its that easy a bike to get rid of?!
Bricklane is indeed the epicentre of stolen bikes in London: if you don't know the area they tend to be down the side streets in the northern half of the road to my knowledge. Sad that the police do nothing at all about the open trade in stolen bikes, its a depressing place.
Rather than go for the direct approach, make sure you have the number for the local police station, call them and ask for them to become involved.
Good luck, sorry to hear about the theft (I had two bikes stolen 8 / 9 months ago too, and I'm still P'd off about it!).

Brick Lane Market Officers - Stolen Bikes
Yesterday at BLBP we had two new visitors:
Martin Aston
0207 364 1709-10
07958235471
martin.aston (and then the at sign) towerhamlets.gov.uk
And
Neil Crump
0207 334 6978
07904 169232
neil.crump etc
These two big burly men are Tower Hamlet's market officers. They came to look for stolen bikes. They were very nice guys who genuinely wished they had more power to use against stolen bikes.
They asked that we use the force of our 1,000 + members to get more press and pressure government and police to act more on stolen bikes. They have a very small budget and can't afford to hire police to help them crack down on the market. They have pictures and names and addresses of many known bike thieves but without the police they can't act. In fact, if they see a bike they know is stolen, they have to.........call the police to act on it.
I felt kinda bad for the guys. They are clearly capable but lack the authority to act.
They are however on Brick Lane EVERY Sunday, unlike the police. They said that if you get a bike stolen you are free to call the numbers above and to email photos of your bikes. That gives us two sets of eyes who know where to look on the market.
They said PLEASE don't call for any other reason. Please respect that as we could really use these guys on our teams.
I told them about this forum so perhaps we can form a relationship to actually save our bikes.
Things they recommended:
-Put a serial number/initials on your bike in a way that can't be sanded off
-Make sure you have a photo of your bike and can describe all the bits (ha!)

Sorry to go a bit O/T but is it possible to buy anything pukka at Brick Lane? I quite fancy a cheapish single speed bike, or a frame with horizontal dropouts to build up the same, but I would prefer not to end up with someone else's stolen p&j.
At the market I'd say no. You'd more than likely to be fueling the stolen bike trade, so for the sake of us all don't do it. Gumtree is ridden with fenced bikes too, which often end up on display at the market on Sunday. However, Brick Lane Bikes on the corner of Brick Lane and Bethnal Green Road should be able to sort you out. Cool shop and a great place for ideas for your single/fixed build. The ceiling in there must have 100-200 second hand track and classic bike frame.

I'd keep scanning through Gumtree for the next couple of days and get yourself down Bricklane Market bright and early on Saturday morning! Good luck!
Indeed. Get on ebay too and set up searches for any likely terms and have them emailed to you (you'll get notified as soon as someone lists something that hits your search). Plenty turn up several weeks later, often on the second or third owner since the theft but fairly easy to trace once listed.Stolen property remains stolen property, even if a buyer has bought in good faith. There is a time period (for stolen cars) after which ownership passes to the buyer. IIRC it's seven years but I'll stand corrected if I'm wrong. Not sure whether the same/similar rules apply to other property though.
ETA sorry your bike got swiped. Yeah BL is a depressing place on a Sunday morning. Some would argue all the time.

Alex, A tip for Sunday. Try and keep a low profile while searching for your bike – don’t make it obvious that you’re looking for a specific bike. The sellers are jumpy, aggressive b***ards and if they catch on that you’re looking for your stolen bike, word will spread like wildfire and the bikes will literally disappear from the streets. Don’t show any of the ‘traders’ a photo of your bike during your search. Saying that, probably a good idea to have photos, receipts etc. on your person just in case the police get involved and you need to prove ownership.
Last weekend a mate got his bike back with the help of those two market warden dudes, so the system can work. Once again, good luck!

Thanks again, you have been most helpful! Do these chaps make a living from rewards or something then? Also, did your mate meet with them/when did his bike get stolen?! One more thing, do these two fellas call the police and let them deal with it or what? Sorry for all the questions!Last weekend a mate got his bike back with the help of those two market warden dudes, so the system can work. Once again, good luck!
Will put all my receipts in my bag ready for a Sunday "mooch down the market!"
Once again thanks for the help
