Why can't people be quiet?

I put the phone down and left it off the hook. Now it's back to work. The world didn't end, and I took the time to think about the veterans and those we lost. If only the rest of my office weren't so disrespectful.

F*cking recruitment consultants.

alton towers actually shut down the rides on sunday.
everyone was quiet.
it was eery but a great show of respect, something people of the UK need to remember more often.

1 minute silence here in the office with only the sound of 3 DC3s dropping poppies over Coventry... perfect.

The local refinery incident siren sounded a few minutes ago, which prompted 2 minutes of conversation of why it was sounding - it's not it's designated test day, do they have a problem... 2 minutes later is sounded again. Ahh. No. That was to mark the 2 minute silence that would normally have been observed if a warning siren wasn't going off down the road.

I remember last year, I was on Oxford street. An unusual quiet descended, traffic stopped, everyone stopped.

We all stopped at work.

Someone was adjusting the blind next to my desk. "no, that's not right, yep - a bit lower, up a bit". This was as 300 people looked on in total silence!

Twats in my office carried on talking, looked aver the way to see a big fat bh gossiping away to her equally ugly fat co worker.

Ungrateful.

People like that don't deserve to live in this country if they can't respect those that have died defending us.

This reminds me a a time when I worked at Westland Helicoptors, where obviously the staff, especially on the shop floor, are very proud of their work, and what it means.

As a result the entire site stops to remember, all tools downed, any processes that would require tending to over the time stopped way before the 2 minutes.

This was followed by all the staff standing together to remember.

All but one contractor who was busy riveting (and those who've done it know how loud that is).

Three of the shop floor lads and a manager quietly slipped away, and 'removed' the contractor out of the back fire exit.

He never returned to site.

Was the same here oddly enough, and I thought they were an enlightened bunch. I just did it myself.

Same happened here despite an e-mail being sent out at 10AM, people kept working. I took the phone off the hook, mobile on silent. It takes very little effort to remember those who gave everything, and those who continue to give everything; I can't stand people who don't remember.
It also amazes me to see the number of people who don't wear poppies; a couple of quid in a collection tin and the words thank you to the often medal encrusted veteran holding the tin is all that’s required, is it really so hard.

I have not seen a solitary poppy vendor carrying their collection tin this year, which surprised me.

I work from home and I stopped. Just turned the screens off and sat in quiet reflection for a few minutes.

To be honest, it's something everyone should do more often as it feels like you reset your moral compass.

The stty email I'd just drafted beforehand was seriously toned down before sending when I reflected on the contents after my few minutes stoppage!

I have seen lots, we even had someone come to the door last week.

The wife was in McDonalds on Sunday, as my son was part of the parade with the scouts, and was pleased to note that they observed the silence in there, except for some loud mouthed customer who was b**ching that "They won't bloody serve me". frown

I'm in Italy, There was a big rememberance do in Milan centre on sunday (Which to my shame I slept through) but they don't do the 11:11:11 thing. I tried at 11 our time, but someone came in for something, so I did it at 12, to be in sync with the rest of Britain.
