Amazing moments in Motor Racing
Discussion
Apologies if this has been done before, but thought it might be cool to have a collection of pics and video's showing some of the most amazing moments in Motor Racing.
Mine will be F1 heavy, but here we go:
Senna stops to help a crashed F1 driver

Senna & Mansell - Silverstone 1991
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ehLyDof0NWs
I have this pic at home, a signed print, just waiting to get it framed and see if the missus will let me hang it anywhere

Gilles Villeneuve Vs Rene Arneux - the greatest 2 laps in history, i think they might just be

I find this photo very evocotive

and we can't have this thread without the legend that is James Hunt

thats just to start things off, what you guys got?
I personally have no problem with accidents being shown, but put a disclaimer or something. I just watched the Gilles Villeneuve fatal crash not realising what it was, and it was just a little bit chilling!

Colin McRae spanking the Group A Legacy at the Manx Rally - any of the in car stuff will do, but there's some great footage on the totally brilliant documentary that was released just after his death.
Surely the climax of this year's F1 championship has to be up there?!
I loved seeing Nicky Hayden clinch the MotoGP championship, after Dani's best efforts to take him out of it!
Any footage of the 990 MotoGP bikes. Manly:

Especially (I think it was) Gibernau taking victory at Donington, coming out of the last corner fully sideways, one hand on the bike with the other making the classic 'number 1' race win gesture. Pure class.
Oh yeah, and Kubica's massive shunt at Canada last year.
Oh, just remembered another - Ayrton Senna at Donny in '93.
I'm at work, so I can't find any videos, but I'm sure some deft You Tube searching will find appropriate videos.

there it is. i've never seen anything like it in my lifetime. nothing amazing by Hamilton, but what a climax!
Who can forget this moment in Le Mans aswell, unbelievable!

anyone know the story behind this?

Sorry i don't know the full story but before i saw the properties iI was going to say G. Hiil indicating to the other driver (Stewart?) that all was okay. Certainly will stick my neck out and say Spa, and in those days there were so few marshals that the drivers tended to look out for eachother. There are tales, particularly in the old 24 hour races, of cars dissapearing and not being found until the next morning

I think you're right Rude Boy, pretty sure it is G Hill and Stewart, seems as if Stewart is actually stopping for him. - sorry, just seen the post from FourWheelDrift, that is amazing that they'd do that, makes me fall in love with motor racing all over again.
Just from the research i've done today, i'm amazed at how many F1 drivers throughout the years have stopped to help someone else out, and i can't even imagine the horror of being stuck in a car at Le Mans for hours before being found.
I just don't see that comradery these days, i'm sure its there, but i just get a feeling everyone is so interested in winning they'd just trundle passed a blazing inferno to make sure they didnt lose their place in the race.
By the way, not necessarily looking for amazing moments in general, so anything that was amazing to you, even if its just a shot of a racing driver next to their car, or Schumacher at his first race, just something evocative and interesting.
cheers

Is it at spa when jackie Stewart crashed heavily and was trapped upside down in his car soaked in fuel? Graham Hill saw the wreckage and pulled over to try and help him. For 40 mins jackie was trapped until graham and another driver managed to free him and took him to a nearby barn where they took off his fuel covered overalls, only for three nuns to walk in and see a stark b
k naked scotsman lying on a hay bale?
Just wondering if the picture is of him indicating that Jackie was ok?
Could be wrong though!
