Circuit driver reviewed a GTR and it did pretty well. However, I think the cost of tracking an Ultima (fat rear tyres, massive brakes etc) may not make as much economic sense as a Caterham R400/500 or Radical. And those buggers weigh half as much, so are nimbler through Chicanes etc.
I have always seen the Ultima as a road going supercar that can venture onto track, rather than as a pure track car. But you could spec up an Ultima to be very suitable for track work, just not sure how much economic sense it would make.

Clive's is indeed the yellow GTR with no rear wing. He was circulating Donington at a fair pace, so it seems fit for purpose
As Clive said, you'll have the trackday specials on an autobahn quite easily, and you can at least drive the Ultima there - and impress the laydeez at your local night spot with the gull wing doors. Well, that's why Bluesatin got one, so he told me

The Ultima is quite happy on the track. However, if you're looking for a pure track car, there may be better things out there. You would need to spend a fair bit on the Ultima to make it track specific (dry sump for instance).
If you want something to use on the road as well, there's nothing really to beat the Ultima. I have a mate with a Radical SR3. It's road registered, but he's only used it on the road once or twice, and it was bloody uncomfortable. A road Ultima may not be quite as quick as the SR3 on the track, but it's about the best compromise of road/track car I know.

Mine was up for sale a while back. I took it off the market, but I'd consider selling it again.
Full dry sump, huge brakes, harnesses, fire extinguisher etc. A couple of pics, and some video at www.ultima-racing.com

I don't think anyone who's got an SR3/XTR2 type car would buy it as a road car (although I know of an XTR2 owner currently building one solely for road use - complete with 385hp turbo lump
) but when you do drive them on the road they are bloody good fun.
Done about 700 road miles in the XTR2 and the buzz it gives you is absolutely fantastic. Get out the car with a massive grin on your and your passengers face - the noise from a 'Busas throttle bodies 2ft from your ear at 10k is, erm, noticeable
But they do have their downsides of course
