Hi there new to this forum
I'm thinking of getting one of these - this one is for sale down the road.
http://www.sherwoodrestorations.co.uk/popup.cfm?p_...
Seems a bit expensive but it is in very good condition.
Now I've had a look at the "buyers guide" thread and the 111's seem to have 8 spoke light weight wheels, so is this a 156bhp or a 120bhp car ?
Racetech spec doesn't list leather seats as option so is it a standard car in disguise ?????
There's some pictures in the engine bay and interior as well, any comments gratefully received
Regards

Looks like a standard engined car to me. If it was a 111S it would have a different rear diffuser, and there's no VVC mech on that engine as far as I can make out.

Seems expensive. "Adjustable shockers" sounds a bit of an odd thing to mention too, if it was being prepped by someone who knows about Elises then they'd mention the brand.

Looks like a 'Sports Tourer' due to full carpets and leather door panels

Race Techs just have Mats and grey plastic door panels, as said already Defo not 111S as a) to early (111s 52 plate onwards) and b) no sign of VVC gubbins

Type 111 just refers to the 'Elise'

Wasn't the "race-tech" a type of Elise? A friend of mine's brother had an Elise he described as a "Race Tech". It was silver too actually!

It's not a 111S because they all had electric windows as standard.

"Adjustable shockers" hehe I can hear the seller speaking now!

edited to add: It's got a long tail hood. The short hood on my Elise is worth its weight in gold. I can jump out of the car and take the roof on and off in seconds, which means I can enjoy open top motoring whatever the weather. If you're spending that sort of money on an Elise, it should be possible to get a short hood model I would have thought?

Definitely a standard 120bhp S2 with one of the "packages". I'm not aware of a long-tailed S2 111S having ever existed; the rear diffuser is wrong, the wheels are wrong, the engine is wrong,...

yes The 111S (and 111?) were short tail only, they all had the three part rear diffuser, and bespoke lighter wheels. The 111S had a VVC engine too.

The "111" badged model had the VVC engine too. It was the same as a 111S but without the extra sound deadening, carpets, etc. They seem quite rare though, I've never seen one.

Yes, you're right. The S was just the comfort spec wasn't it?

Isn't that the "touring pack"?

According to my mate yes, his brother's race tech was pretty raw compared with my 111S. I suppose one could put the touring pack on one though?

The best way to check is a VIN lookup with the factory I would have though.

that is almost expactly the same as my car...

it is a standard 120hp elise - k-series....that isnt a vvc head so i would dispute the 160hp claim unless is has had some very subltle fettling. (there doesnt appear to be an aftermarket exhaust/airbox conversion so i doubt that.)

mine has alcantara interior and leather seats.. i belive they were std option on the racetech. the wheels are std too.

the car is a 'little' pricey although with mileage like that it could be a good one.

hope that helps

That is overpriced by about 3k in the current market.

That would be my feeling too. It's worth 10500, maybe 11500 if it's absolutely perfect.

yeah its really pricey, considering it looks like nearly the most base spec you could get, nearly as early an S2 as you could get...yet its at S2-111S price levels ...seen S2s like that going for £10K recently

We've had this before many times on this forum - traders advertising standard Elises as 111Ss. The 111S is very popular (rightly so!) and if it's a deliberate attempt to mislead then I take a very dim view of it.

given the language in the ad...'shockers' i would suspect the dealer just doesnt know what he has..... that is worrying in it's self though.

hehe Yes, I mentioned that above hehe

Personally, I will always either buy from a recognised and trustworthy specialist (very rare!), a main dealer, or privately from a knowledgeable and known enthusiast. We're not talking about a utility here like a Vectra or a Fiesta, we're talking about someone's pride and joy. Anyone talking about "shockers" on their "motor" wouldn't get a look in if I was buying!!

just to correct a couple of earlier posts.

1) - all 111s didn't have eleccy windows
2) -the 111s came out on an 02 plate not a 52 plate as previously mentioned..
