Work experience guy, what can I get him to do?
Discussion
Hi all,
I arrived into work to be told I'm going to have a (school) student in for a couple of days to get a bit of work experience. He's got a good basic knowledge but thats it.
I'm an IT administrator and I'm looking for suggestions as to what IT related tasks I can get him to do that will occupy his time and save me some hassle. I don't want anything cruel or unusual, just something so he's not bored, but also with little potential for disaster.
Cheers

Be nice to the kid, or he'll show you up!
When I went on work experience, I landed up cleaning components in a planes APU, pumping fuel from one wing of an A320 to the other, watching the mechanics test emergency chutes and whether they had enough force to knock over scaffolding, and sat in a van on the tarmac at Luton with an APU on test in the back. Great fun!

Got a fire safe on site with mag tapes in it?
Get him defurgling them, for a start.
Over time the magnetic particles fall to the bottom of the tape (a process known as Furgling) so the tapes need turning 180 degrees every week or so to stop this happening.
Then when he's done with that, send him off to PC World to get two bags of parity bits, one odd, one even.
