i am a 'numerate' person withina world of 'people' people and 'deal' people. they simply don't comprehend the thought that someone might not wish to spend their evening talking to them..

plus i despise black tie and would have to rent something.

oh..didnt realise we had to be subtle.

Tell them that you find the whole thing slightly against your principles, that to spend so much money on the food, venue and wine, when thousands of people are being made redundant and homeless is not something you feel should be celebrated.

If you have kids, you could always say it is their Christmas Show that night. If no kids, it could always be your niece or nephew.
