Anyone else entering Strathpuffer 24hr race in Scotland?
Discussion
For those that dont know what it is, its a 24 hour bike race in Strathpeffer, just north of Inverness and according to their website its the worlds only 24hr winter bike race. We have just entered for the 2nd year running as a team of four, its a good event to do as a team, as its a good mixture of people racing for abit of fun and the serious racer that wants a challange. You can even enter solo if your crazy enough. This is their website for anyone who is interested http://strathpuffer.co.uk/strathpuffer/event_strat...
Entries are going fast tho.

Yeah, the bbc adventure show has filmed it for the past few years and i think they will be doing another peice on it again this year. The majority of the forest road bits are usually completely covered in ice and the mud is also a battle, but its what makes it a good challange. It's not as bad as it looks tho, i did an event called Hit The North during the summer, which was a 12hr race and the mud in that event i found to be totally impossible to ride on.
Everytime we finish an endurance event we always say never again, but the very next day we usually end up looking for another! Strathpuffer was the first endurance race we did Matt and altho it is a tough course, what better way to learn than get thrown in the deep end

A few mates did Hit the North and they said much the same, fortunately I was otherwise engaged that weekend Everytime we finish an endurance event we always say never again, but the very next day we usually end up looking for another! I did my first 24 this year, the WildBoar, that was fun, weather was nice but the course was a tough one, even by usual standards going on what others were saying. If I can i'll be entering a few more nexts season now I have a taste. It's a good laugh if nothing else, although my advice would be to enter as a solo, you have much more control over when you ride and you get to ride with mates as opposed to you riding when they're kipping etc.
We did Wild Boar too. lol.
To be honest the trail sections were really good there, but there was too much forest road which i find very boring especially when your doing your best to enjoy it at 3am! The walk from the campsite upto the start did not help with meeting team mates either, as u would have to set off 15mins before and then you could be stood there ages waiting for them to turn up. I think it was their first event they had put on, so hopefully they will sort out a better route if they put it on again next year.
