Odd brake problem

On my Go Kart I have a single master cylinder and single caliper.
After about 20 laps of the track my master cylinder is nearly empty despite filling it before going out on track.
When I press the brakes firmly I get a jolt of fluid up the middle of the master cylinder and this i'm guessing is throwing the fluid out of the cap as it's a breatheable cap.
So, any ideas why this is happening?
Has a seal split inside my master cylinder, I don't have it here to check but am curious if this has happened to anyone else.
The brakes themselves work great.
